Title: Key nightmare Post by: BlackdogGS on September 11, 2012, 12:58:14 PM I have a 2010 Monster 1100S. It came with one black key. I want a spare. I called the dealer, he said without the red key I would have to buy a new dash, ECM, etc and it would cost over $3,000. Can any of you enlighten me on the key issue? Thanks

You'd think the PO might still have that stuff laying around somewhere. 900 miles to be exact. I'm trying to locate the PO, that would definitely make my life easier. The dealer won't give me her name so I'm using other sources. Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: Staggerlee on September 11, 2012, 02:16:49 PM Hmm, that's pretty lame of them not to try to help you out; at least they could offer to be the middleman. It looks like the PO participated in one of their track days; I wonder if that's how it ended up totaled and that's why they're keeping mum.
Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: Speeddog on September 11, 2012, 02:22:00 PM I'm pretty sure the most recent Monsters didn't have the red key.
Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: stopintime on September 11, 2012, 03:08:59 PM No red key
Two black keys One Code Card - required to make another key ...says the owner's manual Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: muskrat on September 11, 2012, 03:18:11 PM SOS diagnostics can fix you up, they are located in Portland, OR. Although the above statement is correct but they can copy keys with any code.
Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: He Man on September 11, 2012, 04:50:50 PM if you are daring enough to mail it in, there are certain shops that can clone the key.

Get another dealer, this one clearly has no idea [bang]No red key The owner's manual is correct [thumbsup]Two black keys One Code Card - required to make another key ...says the owner's manual Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: BlackdogGS on September 14, 2012, 10:17:55 AM No red key Two black keys One Code Card - required to make another key ...says the owner's manual Thanks! I don't have an owners manual either. I don't have a code card and I really want another Ducati key. The original dealer that sold the bike "Big Twin Cycle" in Boise and the original owner claim to not have the extra key or card (at least that's what their saying). I'm thinking about emailing Ducati of North America to see if they can help. Another possible option is if I could find an exceptional dealer that's willing to step up and help me with this problem...know any outstanding dealers? At this time I just have the bike, title, vin number and one key. Thanks Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: Raux on September 14, 2012, 10:44:41 AM The key can be duplicated by a dealer without the card IIRC
the codecard is if the bike immobilizer gets locked. you WILL need to get this code Just in Case. The original owner did receive it when he bought the bike new along with the second key. I personally wouldn't like second keys and codecard floating around. Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: muskrat on September 14, 2012, 04:19:03 PM you can have the immobilizer disabled so you can throw out the card key. Ask SOS, no I'm not a rep of theirs, if they can help you on the new models.
Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: J5 on September 14, 2012, 07:52:35 PM its no nightmare as you have 1 key
there is locksmiths around that can supply a copy of your current key for not much money this key will have the same chip code inside so you wont need to program it to the bike it may not be an exact ducati key but for the price and convenience i wouldnt worry when you have the clone key , use that one and put the original key away in a safe place Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: hbliam on September 14, 2012, 08:39:09 PM Thanks! I just emailed Pro-Itilia, hope they can help. My local dealer is Moto Corsa in Portland. They are actually pretty good, except for the key issue. Ill be doing my own maintenance and getting my parts online so I won't be seeing them much besides that their 100 miles away. Say hey to Miles in parts for me if you go back there. He's a good guy and a really knowledgeable parts person. Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: BlackdogGS on September 17, 2012, 09:18:52 PM This is crazy. I can't get a Ducati card or key period. I guess this means that if you lose your card and keys your only option is to part it out. I will get a couple of keys cloned but I still think this deal is fawked. If you ever buy a used bike make sure you get the keys and card.

Makes it so if you ever lose your card you still have the info you need to get some new keys.

If you ever buy a used bike make sure you get the keys and card. you can buy a complete key/lock set from Ducati but again, the code card is dependent on the ECU. the only way to fix it is to flash the ecu. I didn't buy a 749 in the past for this very reason. He didn't have all the keys, so I said, no. It was like $2k to fix the issue. Not so on the new bikes. I think the key is coded to the dash. I've swapped stock ECUs in my M1100s a couple of times without flashing them with no problems. [thumbsup]Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: Raux on September 18, 2012, 12:31:53 PM But the test for key and dash comes from ecu
that's why reflash works now swapping dash might get u new key code but dna will answr that Title: Re: Key nightmare Post by: Speeddog on September 18, 2012, 12:59:13 PM Part# 59840341A
