The digital displays on my '05 Monster 620 are displaying incorrectly. I would like to get them repaired/replaced instead of replacing the whole cluster (expensive because of the stupid immobilizer). Do you guys know of anyone who offers such a service?
Thanks.
Can you explain the problem a little more or show a picture? What do you mean by incorrectly. Have you recently washed your bike or been in heavy rain?
Basically it displays gibberish instead of the time and odometer. I thought just a few of the little digit "bars" were burnt out and I could figure out a pattern, but it's just not readable. It's been like this since I bought it 2 months ago. The bike was down at some point and that caused it.
Sounds like moister in the gauge. I have had this happen twice to me. Once when I went a little overboard washing the bike and another when I got caught someplace in a freak downpour.
Check this tutorial out to see how to take it apart.

Once you get it down to the board out of the housing you can stop. No need to take the needles off. I used compressed air to get some any moister in the nooks and crannies of the board. Then let it sit somewhere that is dry and warm to dry out. You can test the board anytime without putting it back in the housing as you go to see if it gets better. Let us know how it goes or if you have any question.
Also be careful taking the gauges apart. If you think you need to add more force you are probably doing it wrong.
Awesome, can't wait to check this out. I'd love for it to be a simple fix.
So I took it apart down to the white board with the gauges still on the front. I put that whole thing in a bag with some dry rice, hopefully that will pull the moisture out.
The process made me aware of a pinch in the gasket, and the unit was filled with dirt. It must have been down in mud or something.
I have another question: if it turns out the displays are actually broken, are they easy to take off? It LOOKED like thay were separate from the actual board, meaning they could be relatively easy to remove. However, I didn't take the actual circuit board out of the white plastic housing because I was afraid of breaking the needles off. Do you know if those needles just pop on and off, or would I have to "break" them off and glue them back on? The thread you posted seems to suggest they just come off, but I have heard elsewhere that they are glued.
Thanks.
Yes the needles are glued. The displays are separate from the board. If you look in the thread that I posted there is a picture of the board taken by me at the bottom. The vertical lines are what connects to the LCD's to light up. Sometimes water gets on those contacts and causes the displays to go funky. The downside of taking your board to this point is having to remove and re-glue the needles back on.
mines were not glued, they are snapped on, but the S2R1000 and 620 have slightly different guages.
this is how mine looked like.

not that many pics, i am going to swap out to a vapor trail or something.
This actually fixed my problem. I can't thank you guys enough. This would have been hundreds of dollars to have someone else do. THANK YOU!!
