Just got my hands on a very nice Foggy Monster, I think I found a bike that will stay with me for a while. After some forum reading I came across the thread that discussed the wrong ECU issue. First hint was the bike not starting with kickstand down then the quick test of rev limit, yup 9,500 is all she will go. I will call Ducati tomorrow to see if I can get the correct ECU but I am not expecting good news there. Question for those of you in the know is...what are my other options? ECU reflash? is it worth while to get a power commander and have a dyno tune done? As with most Foggy's I have the full Termi's and just want the bike to run as well as it can.
we have to stop meeting like this ;D
If you can spend the $ the best route is to make sure what ever you go with ECU wise that you map each cylinder individually. You will need to install what is called a bung in each head pipe about 4-6" back from the head. Then a PC3 can piggy back on the ECU and made to work just fine. You may have an option for a microtech ECU but seems like it can be hit or miss with owner satisfaction. With your bike a knowledgeable tuner that is willing to map each cylinder separately and smooth out that a/f ratio across the board on both cylinders can make a heck of a difference. When you need to get the pipes done up for the Dyno tune give me a shout and I'll introduce you to the guy. Don't hesitate to ask any ?? if you have them.
if you want it to run with the stand down and the rev limit raised you have to reflash the ecu or buy a 2002 ecu.
the fuelling bit can be done with a power commander.
You will also only have one cooling fan with an '01 ECU in an '02 bike.
Thanks for the input. So how do I get my hands on the correct Ducati ECU or...is there an aftermarket ECU that will fix the fan and kickstand issue? Dave you mentioned Microtech...is that a replacment for the stock but adjustable? Does anyone have a source for the correct ECU or a PN? Then before you get it in the bike how would you know if it was the correct one? THKS
You could just put the second fan on a rider operated switch.
Yes, you can get a Microtec for your bike.
I'm running one on my '02 S4.

Did you do a dual tune like Dave R. mentioned above? Are you happy with the results? Would this be the way you would go if doing it over?
I'm pretty happy with the Microtec M197.
I had no option, as my FIM U59 ECU gave up (what I bought to replace the OEM ECU that gave up).
It came with a pre-loaded map that was reasonable.
I've fiddled with the map a good bit.
I've got bungs welded into each pipe so I can run my WEGO II (wideband O2 sensor).
It's only got one sensor, so that's a bit of a shortcoming.
Microtec does make a Dual Lambda Controller, which can auto-map based on what the the O2 sensors are reading.
Here's some info on both:

Not a cheap proposition by any means, but it's the best option out there, IMO.
Great info thanks for the reply. A couple more follow up questions...
Can I have the dual tune done without buying the Dual Lambda Controller? Would that be more for the autotune feature?
What is the advantage of the WEGO II, is that also for the auto tune?
My guess is I would need the two bungs for the dyno tune (custome mapping) then plug them, sound reasonable?
A good dyno operator should be able to do a dual tune.
The nice thing about the Dual Lambda Controller is it will tune while you ride.
Possibly eliminating the whole dyno-tune exercise.
There's folks here who have done the same general procedure with different equipment.
There's a thread here somewhere...
The WEGO II just gives me a numerical A/F ratio while I'm riding.
It does have some A/F, rpm, and throttle position logging that I haven't used yet.
Theoretically I can get the same result, just a good bit more work.
Yes you could eventually plug the bungs, IIRC they usually come with plugs.
OK, here is what I have so far...
My kickstand down shuts bike off, some say this is normal for this bike and some say it is the wrong ecu...
Rev is limitted to 9500 rpm, should be 10k plus for the full Termi's with DP ecu
Not sure about fans, I am in Wa. you kow and it's not like it is hot out.
Called Ducati shop and got nothing....that part isn't available anymore so mute point...never heard of that problem ect...
So, I need to decide what my action will be. I have no problem spending the money to do it right, just want to do it right the first time.It sounds like the Speeddog solution would be the way, Microtec ECU and the Dual Lambda controller. Dyno tune would be $500 anyway so why not let the thing tune on it's own?
Am I thinking correctly?
Speeddog?
DaveR?
Anyone?
The OEM ECU rev limit was 9500.
My '02 S4 would run with the kickstand down when the OEM ECU was in it.
DP ECU should go to 10000.
There is a thread here that the Foggy owners have, those folks could tell you if their bikes will run with the stand down.
But I'm pretty sure that you have an '01 ECU, that was a very common situation on the '02's.
I don't recall exactly, but they may *all* have had '01 ECU's.
I wanted to get the Dual Lambda Controller, but it essentially doubled the price of the project.
I couldn't squeeze that much blood out of my wallet.... :P
If you weren't so far away, we could make a deal to share one...
WOW, I was going to bump this and say that its been a year but it has been two! OK, time to fix this problem....bump to the top and looking for any updates and such.
Landscape is still the same.
