Ok, so I just ran a Warrior Dash this past weekend. It was my first running race of any form, and since I hate running, I figured an obstacle race was the way to go. I ran the race at Gunstock Mountain in Gilford NH with a time of 41.26 and came in 157th out of 4700!!!! (Top 4%!!) I couldn't believe how well I did and how much fun it was! Though I am sure paying the price the last few days (stairs will be the death of me.)
Anyway, I am totally hooked, and am starting to recruit friends to do a Tough Mudder next spring or summer.
Anyone else have any experience with off road foot races or triathlons or training or anything related??
I did the runforyourlives zombie run last year and if you do a search on here, you can find my feedback on that debacle....knowing what I do about Tough Mudder, I can't say that I am looking forward to doing that anytime soon...especially having just finished my 2nd half marathon this past weekend after a crappy summer training regimen( but I got a P.R. at 1:54:54)...I think if I am to take on another "big" event, it will be to do a full marathon, but I am on the fence about it as my legs are completely smoked feeling right now...
Well, if you want to count the lack of sleep as an obstacle - there is always Anything is Possible. [cheeky] That runs starting at 1:50 A.M. on Saturday night/sunday morning November 3/4. It's only a 5 k, but you always have a negative time and it is tons of fun because only a crazy person would get up at 1 a.m. to go run a race, eat pizza, drink coffee and then go back to bed (maybe)!
i did tough mudder twice in 10 months. one time i had hypothermia. and the 2nd time i got sand in my eye and lost my electric shaver.

Yeah, getting firehosed off after the warrior dash left me pretty damn cold...i dont maintain my body temp well as it is...
Purely out of curiosity, why would you bring your electric shaver to the tough mudder?

Firehosed? i was talking more along the lines of swimming in a garbage container of more ice than water and then swimmign a few laps in a river and the running 13 miles in mud and crap at a crawling pace because everyones so damn slow and i cant generate any body heat in 40 degree weather with no clothes on kind of cold. It rivaled riding in 5 degree weather for 1 hour (Farenheit) I wish i got firehosed! atleast it would of been over in 5k, and not 21k.

If the firehose had been mid race (like the ice) at least i could have continuted running to warm up. (instead I had to jump in the draft pond...oddly about 15 degrees warmer than the hose water)
the firehose risnse had its advantages...mostly from a "people watching" standpoint.
I think Ill start with 5k and work my way up to the 12 mile mudder, I dont think a full spartan is in my future...ever. Eff that Es.
Might join crossfit tomorrow though...looks addictive...
