Title: Steering stem length on different model ducatis
Post by: caperix on September 20, 2012, 05:05:26 AM
I am working on a street fighter project using a 749 frame.  I am looking to adapt monster triple trees to it for the 30mm offset & the bar mount.  The frame I am using has the non adjustable offset tube.  The S2r monster lower triple I have has the correct diameter tube but the legth is about 1/2 inch to short for the neck.  It looks like the steering stem can just be pressed out of the lower tripple & the correct one can be pressed in when I find one. The issue I am having is finding a 749 lower triple at a good price.
Do other models use the same length stem? I am pretty sure I can use any of the SBK's with the non adjustable stem, 748, 749, 848. But what about other models like hypermotard, multistrada, ect?

Cost & lack of good machine shops in my area. Nicolls makes an aluminum one but it is $300. I was hoping to find a rashed lower tripple for cheap & press the stem out of it then install in the monster lowers.  The factory part is not very heavy so nut much point in having one made.

Ok, second question. Does anyone know if the monster steering stem is press fit or screwed in?  I know the superbikes with the adjustable offset screw in but i can not tell on the monster.
