Title: Met my first Sydney police officer today...
Post by: svoloch on September 20, 2012, 02:59:39 PM
Nice fellow.  Pointed out that its not legal to lane split here and let me off with a warning.  Are they all that nice?  I was thinking one of several possibilities:

1) Sydney police offers are charming fellows
2) I am a charming fellow, and my disarming smile with my smooth American accent won over a troubled heart
3) American drivers licenses are not considered to be quality revenue streams
4) I remind him of his father/alcoholic uncle/abusive cross dressing aunt

Either way, looking forward to discovering this aspect of Sydney culture

Probably due to your US license, too hard to process maybe, and you can always plead legitimate ignorance.

If it was one of us locals we'd be up for the high-jump I suspect.

What were you riding out of interest?

Awesome bike!

Check out this update on lane splitting laws...

On your bike... Motorbike riders may be allowed to ride in gap between cars
Lan splitting, in which of motorcyclists ride down the gap between lines of stalled traffic, could be legalised and even encouraged to help reduce congestion.

Interesting.  It varies state to state in the US.  It's legal in California under a certain speed, and illegal in Texas, as an example...

I will spread this out over the next 3-4 years at local pubs.  You'll have to show up to collect, and I will by the beers directly, to ensure that you do not throw the $$ away on drugs, rent, or food.

Interesting contrast, riding the very muscular SF with the "elegant, close fitting chinese dress with high neck and slits on the sides".

It's the slits on the sides that sold it.  I'm surprise he didn't actually stuff some cash into my boots...  It's a burden being this good looking, but one I try to bear with grace and humility.
