Was thinking on putting clip ons on my m750..
I'd like to hear some of opinions from ppl who have them. Are they better, do u have better control, pros and cons. Also I'd like to know which clip ons are you using.. Thx in advance.. [thumbsup]

Put clipons on my M796. 

Pros: WAY more control on spirited rides, can actually hang off the bike now, looks evil.

Cons: Not as comfortable on leasure/long distance rides, reduced turning radius.

(this is changing this winter to IMA special parts clipons and triple, to compliment my SBK fork upgrade.)

I have the APEX 4'' riser model on my M900...very happy with them.

Very adjustable up down, more reach & angle of wrist......about any position your tank and or fairing will allow!! [Dolph]

Before clip-ons, my wrists would ache and hands would go numb.  I put on a set with a lot more downward angle and I'm a happy camper. [Dolph]

They are the stock clip-ons from a Ducati Sport Classic.  In addition to having lots of angle, they are pretty tall, so they are a bit lower than stock bars, but not crazy low.  (It's easy to make clip-ons lower ... higher is hard!)  I did have to take off some material on the riser so they could rotate far enough forward.

I put 1 1/2 in rise on my 750 when I had it. It was the best thing I did to it.

Just behind going one tooth down on the front cog, the clip ons are still my favorite mod.  I rode road bicycles for years, so I understand ergonomics and the benefits of a good, high, hand position, but the clip ons (2" Woodcrafts) made a big difference in my long distance comfort. 

I know most people claim a more brutal riding position after conversion to clip ons, but I had a good experience that was over all placebo-less.  My first big ride after the conversion (230 miles one way up to the rent's house) was kind of miserable, but it was all weather related so I didn't really have a chance to think about how my hands felt.  On the way back it was gorgeous and it took me until 80% of the ride home to remember that I'd changed the hand position from stock.  The angle that clip-ons put on your wrists (IMO) is far superior to the stock bars, even if your riding position is farther forward. 

Plus, they just look sooooo much cooler  :)

clip-ons for me too on my M750.  They have a 1.5" rise and mounted above my triple.  I've got a longer reach and I prefer the "aggresive" riding position.  Makes me feel more in control of the bike and its handling, especially thru the twisties.  I'll never go back to the regular bars.

good luck with your decision.  Sometimes its just trial and error until you find what works best for you.

 
Well, I've been riding monsters since 2009.. I love them , love everything abt them.
Two weeks ago I took my friends zx6r on the twisties.. And loved the position and handling.. So I started wondering how my bikes would feel if the seating position was like that.. Yeah ill put clip ons.. Have to look into it a lil more and understand what's better for me... The sizing and all.. But thx for the replies guys.

Mine may be up for sale shortly if you are interested.  I'm possibly doing an SBK fork swap and would need larger diameter clip-ons.

Hey there.  For the first few months of this year I had an M750 onto which I put new Renthal standard shaped bars and also an M900 with clip-ons.  Rode both every couple of days and tried to decide these issues and others.  While the Renthal bars were easy to use and comfortable, there was no getting away from the feeling it lent, that you were riding an old-timey standard.  It provided a perfectly spaced platform to rest on a straight and required little leverage or weighting on either side to accomplish the usual turns and road carving with minimal effort.  HOWEVER, the M900 (aside from its being a grown-up, stronger version of the 750) actually felt like it was born and bred for an experienced rider.  The clip-ons were a not so subtle minute-by-minute slap behind the head to keep me in mind of the fact that control was the means, the end, and the inevitable expression of good riding skills.  Yes, more work is involved in the lower position, but steering becomes an active element of what's going on every second, with your input translating more directly, more precisely and accomplishing more.  Rather than just the bicycle style riding where hanging back and following the road is an easy, touristy picnic, the clip-ons make you work for your pleasure, and in doing so, you find out why the Monster name is deserved and how to train your dragon.  Sorry, don't know what kind.  When a knock-over broke one side, I replaced with a universal bar.  Do it.

the 2002 onward bikes have a different top triple to the pre 2002 and are much easier to fit clip ons too.

i fitted some speedymoto tall boys to a 96 recently which fitted very well without any top triple clearance issues.  i keep meaning to post my photos.  i can't find them on their web site now tho, maybe they've dropped them.

it seemed ok to ride to me, but they are possibly higher than most clip ons, they have maybe 75mm rise from the fork clamp to the bar.  the bike in question had quite high bend steel bars before (not std), so the owner would have felt a difference that i might not have given my 96 has std bars.
