Title: S2R800 owners waranty issue(s) Post by: uclabiker06 on June 29, 2008, 11:13:15 AM I have a F/I S2R800 and my warranty is coming up sooner than later. Seems like the S2R800 is a very problem free, well built bike, unlike the old 750ie or the other S2R models with the infamous O2 sensors. The biggest or most common non-cosmetic problem I have heard about on the S2R is bent valve guides and I wanted to know:
1) What prevents them from bending again if bent ones are replaced? How do you detect bent valve guides? Just by eye or special tools? 2) Any S2R800 owners out there who have had other internal/non-cosmetic problems with their bikes besides bent valve guides? ??? First I've heard of that... Title: Re: S2R800 owners waranty issue(s) Post by: clubhousemotorsports on June 29, 2008, 11:37:49 AM I am sure he is talking about worn guides. Hopefully the new guides are better in quality of materials and in clearance to start off with.
Guides should be checked at each service, customer makes the call on weather they get changed or not. If the customer is footing the bill I do not use oem. This saves money and the new part has been less problematic. Any bike can have issues but I do not think the 800 was any more or less reliable than any product ducati has produced. Title: Re: S2R800 owners waranty issue(s) Post by: uclabiker06 on June 29, 2008, 01:33:36 PM Yeah I guess I was talking about worn guides. I was talking with someone who has the same bike as me and I thought he said that they replaced his valve guides at warranty and something about them being bent...maybe he was referring to the valves themselves or something. So what is the most common problem that might sneak up on my S2R800 during warranty? I thought it had to do with valves. I can't wait to get that first service over with and be in the clear.

Title: Re: S2R800 owners waranty issue(s) Post by: tangueroHondo on July 01, 2008, 05:44:19 AM A recurrent problem I've had with my 05' S2R is weightlessness in the front end. When I roll on hard she gets light in the front end to the degree that the front wheel will, on occasion leave the pavement.

Usually happens around 12K mi. Happened to me a couple other forum members around the same mileage. that's it for me in almost 19K mi of hard riding. Wise guy. ;) Quote Valve guides are the one known thing to look for, after that it is the random items like ecu or dash. Right, that what I understood to be true. Anybody know what is it with the S2R valve guides that has caused them to be the most common internal defect? New cases for me on warranty. [thumbsup]
I have heard of at least 2 others with the same issue. Mine was on an S2R 800 but I don't remember if the other cases were. ??? Title: Re: S2R800 owners waranty issue(s) Post by: Speeddog on July 02, 2008, 01:45:41 PM Rear brake master cylinders seem to be prone to just quit working.
