Had a great weekend up in the mountains... so much fun I took monday off and went back for more ;D

The BRP is nice... Just don't speed or you'll get more than a photo to remember the day by.

Sunday was fairly crowded but I didn't see any  [leo]'s on the BRP but the ride home on 276 I passed 3 coming the other direction within about 15mins.  You know those moments when you're stuck behind some slow minivan that's watching the leaves change color and just when you're about  [bang] you pass a cop coming the other direction and then all of a sudden you're grateful for the minivan... yeah, that. 

Yesterday I about had the place to myself. I took it easy anyway but I did see a couple monsters, and a Duc sbk who was really enjoying him/herself. 

And remember, much or all of the BRP is parks land. So rangers can issue tix as well, in additional to local LEOs.

The Talimena Scenic Drive in southeast Oklahoma is a favorite in this part of the country and it also is a 50+ mile long park road. Double stripe, no passing and a 55 mph limit. It may be a park road but during the week when no one is there and it is not patroled it's been my personal "track day" road since 1980. ;D [Dolph]

But the fun ended abruptly for me and some friends on a ride in spring 2008 when half of us got pulled over by Park Rangers and cited for passing in a no pass zone. :P What were we supposed to do? We were stuck behind an ancient S-10 Chevy pick up that was totally beat to shit, running 25 mph tops and puking out enough nasty burned oil smoke to kill off half of the state!

Never even saw the Ranger in my mirrors but he was tucked in at the end of the long line of bikes and cars stuck behind the smoking S-10. As soon as we said screw it and passed the junk heap he hit the party lights and stepped on the gas. And yes, it was on a Friday when they start patroling. Lesson learned... $250+ later. [roll]

I wouldn't be surprised if that happens a lot.  The views are awe inspiring. 


I try to have a good time while minding my p's and q's these days as I don't have a lot of points to spare.  :-\

BRP isn't patrolled anywhere near as heavy as Skyline.  Plus, most of the LEOs (local or park ranger) I've met up there have been pretty lax.

"Issue Tix as well"? make the beast with two backs, I guess. $2000 dollar tickets and then some. Depending on how stupid you get. I live here.

Journeyman, didn't you get a "serious" ticket before?

I had a friend who was arrested by federal marshals form his apartment while a student at Clemson U. because he ignored a ticket from the Park Way.

They called the helo out on me and five cop cars coming down into Cherokee Reservation from Gatlinburg - Federalizes all. It was ugly. Grown men stomping and jumpn' up and down and cursing like sailors. Ugly! Scary!

The BRP is Federal land, bought and paid for in the 1930's. It's entirely NPS, all 469 miles of it. All enforcement and jurisdiction is by Rangers. A local LEO would be a "visitor" there. Unless something has changed radically, a ticket by any LEO would be his word against yours and in a Federal court.

From experience, Rangers are not "looking" to issue a summons, but WILL for any blatant violation, and that you will answer in Federal court..., so best avoided.  ;) Not a particularly "Ducati" road anymore as the road surface has been neglected in the last few years. In VA anyway, lots of state roads adjacent to the BRP are smoother, faster and just as interesting although somewhat less scenic. Not too many LEO's either except near towns or in lower speed zones.

Skyline is another matter. It's "Virginia" and state-maintained..., and SLOW.  :(

Yeah, the Park Rangers called in an armed road block for me with instructions to arrest me on the spot for evading arrest. When we gassed it past the smoke puking piece of shit S-10 with a handful of my buddies I never saw the Ranger or his party lights behind me.

I had my right hand set on fast gentlemanly sport touring speed when I decided to check my "six"... ahhh, where was evryone? I even stopped in the middle of a long straight wondering where the hell everyone went. They saw the Ranger and stopped while I merrily buzzed down the road. [bang]

I turned around and went back thinking maybe someone went down or broke. Wrong. :P Damn Park Ranger was going ape shit on the side of the road with my friends, his hand on his gun for Christ sake! :o When I pulled over and took off my helmet he calmed down after he saw I was older that his Dad. [laugh] We got the mandated ass chewing and tickets. Fine... you sit behind the smoke puking S-10 for 50 miles and see how you like it. [roll] [leo]
