Ok I've tried 3 times over the last year to paint/coat the headers on the s4 twice with vht paint and once with ceramic coating and each and every time after a month or so the coating discolours or were's off. After a wee bit of research on this forum and the web I purchased vvht paint its the stuff that has a heat range 700-1000 degs c so here's hoping this will last a bit longer although riding on wet roads through cow sh1te and slurry probably dosen't help. Here's a couple of pics of the process I used the blow torch to heat the pipes from the inside trying to simulate the engine running heating process recommended on the tin I did the reheat 5 times.

 VHT also makes a header paint that withstands temps of 1300-2000 degrees.
I used it and haven't had any issues since.

Did you follow the curing directions?

To the letter and more I used the blow torch on the pipes heating them from the inside out using my hand to feel the temp of the pipe I did this 3 times gradually getting hotter then I let it cool over nite then fitted it to the duc and did the curing process according to the instructions on the tin. Today was the first time I was out on wet sh1tty roads and when I got home and the pipes were cool I hosed them down and I.m very pleased with the way they cleaned up no stains or marks and the colour hasn't changed to dark grey which happened when used the lower temp vht paint I'll post a pic of the pipes tomorrow.

I used a flat black Rust Oleum product good up to 2000F on the connector pipes between the header and the carbon fiber cans.  Parts were sand blasted and cleaned with Total Prep before painting and it held up well.  I sold the parts a couple of months after painting.

iw was thinking about painting mine and wrapping them. any thoughts on that?
ive never seen a wrapped udder and i cant phatom what it would look like or how difficult it is to wrap that odd shape.

I've never wrapped an exhaust but think the climate I live in precludes it for the dampness if you live in a dry climate I can't see a problem. As for the udder paint it black and wrap the headers up to it in my humble opinion.
