Title: 02 620 monster LOW IDLE

Hi all,

I've been looking at this topic but cant seem to find how to fix it..

My 02 620 has an extremely low idle. At around 500 rpm even warmed up at 210 degrees. I stalled out the other day in the middle of an intersection, so i def need to get this fixed. According to the manual it should idle at around 1400 to 1500 rpm so im way off.

I researched that its just a screw that i need to turn somewhere. A screw near the fuel injectors?? But i have no idea what im doing. If its an easy fix, I'd be happy to save myself the time of taking to a mechanic.

Anyone have any pictures or tutorial that references this kind of issue?? thanks alog  :)

Idle should be 1100-1200 rpm.

Before you go chasing to fix the wrong thing....
When were the valve clearances last checked/adjusted?

I just bought it from a dealer..

They said they did a full inspection so i assume there. But im not sure/

I'll call and ask. Think i may take it in to a local ducati shop tomorrow or this weekend.

Bring it back to the dealer, their inspection missed something.

Though I'm shocked it keeps running at that low an RPM. My 900 would probably cut out at 500

Wish i could take it bake to the dealer and have them look at it.  Unfortunately i bought i 500 miles away.

From what I can gather, its a simple issue. But, not something that im knowledgeable enough to go about fiddling with myself.

Im calling ducati mechanics in the Los Angeles area to see if i can schedule an appointment.

Its basically a screw, a cable, or valve clearance that needs to be tightened/adjusted, but im no expert.

My 750 had the same problem when I got it.. All I did was adjust the throttle bodies.
There is a little screw there that keeps the throttle bodies open. Turned that one full rotation. Left it on 1200rpms and its been two years since , the bike works perfect.

Really, where are those located?

If i could just turn a screw and save myself 120$(what i was quoted today) that would be great!!

What changed over the course of the day?

What it might cost?

You'll be doing yourself a disservice if you go turning screws that you have no idea what the purpose is.

Very rarely on a FI bike is the problem just a throttle stop screw.

The TPS is tied to that screw and by turning it you also need to reset the TPS.

Are you sure the belts are fresh, or within the 2 year replacement interval? Just what did this dealers inspection include?

Do what you want, but to get the most from the bike and to protect your investment you should have someone with more knowledge than the dealer you bought it from look at it.

I was just hoping it was an easy fix. But after doing some research on throttle bodies and where they're located, it seems to be too much for me.

I certainly wouldnt want to go about doing any damage trying to cut corners.

This bike has only 1500 miles on it and is in mint condition. Not sure what the original dealer inspection included, but it probably wasnt an adjustment.

I have an appointment for a local ducati mechanic on friday so i'll take it in. Although I would like to know these things just for future reference and basic knowledge about my bike.

As long as he shop you take it to is reputable you won't be sorry.

At 1500 miles it shouldn't need a valve adjustment, but the age of some items...like tires and timing belts is an issue if they haven't been changed in 11 years.

Chances are the throttle bodies were never set up correctly and it just needs that set up.

They completely missed something.

I am curious about the gas in the tank.

PS. Don't touch the throttle bodies!!!
My bike idles a little low, but my issues are different than yours.


Go back to the dealer. Bro them up.

How does one go about setting up their throttle bodies?

Build manometer and sync them. Go on youtube theres videos on how u do it.
