whats up guys, ok so i got my m796, liked it at first, now its turning into my bike and im starting to love her. The two things on my list to do are: exhausts/tail chop. with a Rottweiler coming in my foreseeable future the exhausts are on back order (even though, i'd really like to go no exhausts, just delete the cans because i love the way it looks and sounds) so that being said; i want to do a tail chop. who can give me the cleanest, cheapest, best way to get this done. what do i need? im not particularly handy but i can figure shit out while im doing it...any help out there?
I'm pretty sure the tail on the new Monster just comes off with a few screws ... "chopping" is no more. Just add a plate bracket and you're done.
what about blinkers and tail light?
Most kits have places to mount the lights. Integrated tail light might not be a bad idea.
This is not a particularly difficult modification. Basic hand tools, plus some knowledge of how to use them, and you should be fine. [thumbsup]

so if i were to just do the integrated light, all i would need is just a bracket to attach the plate on correct? versus the other kits that are more expensive? or would i have to get the taillight and a kit ...molto confused

yes you could, but most states require you to have a light on your license plate but the comp werks kit has a cleaner look if you dont have turn signals, however it will greatly reduce the mud/rock deflection from your back/seat
take a look at the different kits and see which one you like the look better, some are made out of better materials, but you do get what you pay for

have to get the kit either way.
I've fitted and help fit quite a few types of tail tidy and the Evotech is a quality bit of kit, easy to install and has the ability to retain the stock indicators... [thumbsup]

R&G Racing (which I have)
Competition Werkes (which has been rated decent, but I hated it)
Ducati Performance (the factory version
a few more have come out even out since those have
one recently where you have to cut your stock plastic tail (stupid idea IMO)
+1 on the Evotech! [thumbsup] Love mine. My friend uses a CW and the material was unfinished and very cheesy IMO. [thumbsdown] Install was fairly easy. If you can change your brakes or oil, you can do this. If I go with the integrated tail light later on, I plan on cutting off the indicator mounts, filing it down flush, and having it re-coated. If [leo] in your area are anal, you may want to look into a brighter tag light. Otherwise, [Dolph]!!
yeah i am leaning toward evotech, and i need to figure out what exhaust, if any. i'm not sure whether to invest money into the bike. i don't know if ill have her for more than 3-4 years. I would like to move to an 848/1098 when i reach my junior or senior year (im in college) so i dont know what to do currently

I spent a bit of time and research trying to decide the same thing. IMO...the cleanest option for the newer monsters is the Motodynamics fender eliminator (FE) + their integrated taillight.
Here's why...
1) No blinkers sticking out with integrated tail - sequential turn signals and stop alert feature are cool and functional
2) Relocated key hole means no fugly box sticking down creating a "flush" look with the subframe...you don't get this with evotech and others
3) The FE is only $30!! Integrated taillight is $75. So basically get taillight + FE for the cost of the Evotech FE
4) No other combo will yield this look at this price that I am aware of. Correct me if I am wrong please.
Downside: on 796/1100 you need to eliminate the servo motor with Duc.EE or deal with a CEL. That is the downside of benefiting from the flush look as the servo motor mounting plate hangs down below the subframe when viewed from the side. This is not a problem with 696 obviously or if you already have ECU/exhaust with servo removed.

monstertailchop has one, you need a hack saw and some metric hex wrenches. It includes complete instructions, and an LED plate light, and since it requires part of the original fender with the seat lock, you don't have to mess with the servo.

did a quickie peak at the install instructions, and it looks almost identical to the comp werx kit

You are correct, the Werkes FE is similar save the fact the Werkes is unpainted raw stainless (looks tacky unless you paint it) while the Motodynamics uses black rust proof coating...and go figure the Werkes is still $100 more!
well the werks kit also is bent to allow room.. if you can call it that... for the servo motor
