Title: Buying a 796 new Post by: mr5ev3n on September 28, 2012, 07:36:31 PM Hey ladies and gents,
I hope to be purchasing a new 796 tomorrow. Excited to join the monster clan. I was curious, if it isn't sensitive material, what other people have purchased a 796 for. Price wise. I've never purchased a new bike before and most dealerships just list the 10,295 MSRP. So, barring a "friend" in the business or any other exemplary condition, what should I shoot for? Also, the dealership offers an extended 4 year contract for 790$, is that worth it? I appreciate any feedback, thanks. Title: Re: Buying a 796 new Post by: wannabfast on September 28, 2012, 07:51:36 PM it sounds similar to what i paid, i havent had any big issues other than the sticker on the center tank cover started peeling
did the valve check at 7500 and everything was still within spec if you are buying new, spend a little extra time to keep that thing clean, i just clicked over 9000 today and it still looks like new cause i clean it once a week or right after a long ride, a super clean bike that has miles tells people you love the thing [bacon] [drool] Title: Re: Buying a 796 new Post by: cyberswine on September 28, 2012, 11:12:47 PM Congrats on the 796 hope it works out. From what I know, certainly in the Great White North. dealers are not budging much from sticker. Ducati frown upon it apparently. Extended warranty is up to you: you get a 2 year warranty anyway and you're still on the hook for maintenance. Personal choice.

I cant help you with the purchase price coz I live in a different world to you. But the extended warranty.... which presumably ties you to them for maintenance..... No way I'd enter into that, or any other pre-paid maintenance plan. Title: Re: Buying a 796 new Post by: sgollapalle on September 29, 2012, 12:22:56 PM The contract is only warranty. It does not cover maintenance. The bike comes with 2 year warranty, and the dealer I got the bike from said I can decide after 2 years if I want to extend it. I haven't needed it in 2 years.
Its like insurance, if you don't use it, it feels like waste of money, but should something go wrong, you wish you had it... So its kind of a personal choice. Great bike and after al the mods to make it yours, you fall in love with it more!! Like he said, you will love it even more when you get bit by the mod bug. Funny thing is, I love reading when people discuss prices. I actually bought mine in Florida and had it shipped to PR paid pretty close to MSRP. The reason why I find it funny is because the 796 Is listed at the PR dealer for 16k, no joke..... [bang] *edit* For those of you having a hard time believing me here is a used one for 15k.... http://www.clasificadosonline.com/UDMotoraDetail.asp?ID=965340 (http://www.clasificadosonline.com/UDMotoraDetail.asp?ID=965340) Title: Re: Buying a 796 new Post by: take risks on September 30, 2012, 07:15:13 PM Don't buy the extended coverage, get
1) tools 2) leathers/gloves/boots 3) a trackday instead and you will love your bike way more. My 2 cents. [beer] |
