Title: So I just re-fell in love with my 796...
Post by: Lekak796 on September 29, 2012, 10:35:58 AM
Finally got my 14t, Leo Vince SBK Evo Carbons and the Barracuda belly pan. I know a lot of you don't dig the belly pans on monsters but I personally think it kinda adds an edge to the new Monsters. Went out for a short ride to make sure everything is set up for tomorrow's Mini Iron Butt a buddy and I will do, heading completely around the coast of PR. I gotta say the 14t is by far the best mod so far, completely different bike. Suffice to say I'm renewing my vows with my bike, LOVE HER!

I think the thing that would make the Barracuda look better IMO
if it was like 80% as big as it is. It's a bit overscaled for the bike.
and to replace that front panel with a screen that matches the oil cooler screen

also, I think I've read issues of it getting hot. I would buy some heat shielding and put it on the inside of that fairing

Looking good.  If you can find a real under the seat exhaust pipes, it'd be the bomb!

I sort of agree with you, to an extent. Thing is the other belly pans available are fugly and tiny in my opinion, especially that little tiny carbon one with the aluminum cover. I'd rather it be a bit larger than necessary than the little bikini ones available which are basically the same price.

Thanks!! The only true underseats I have found are the H-Competition ones. They are ok looking to me, but they seem like something is missing. They are almost twice as expensive and you gotta add the duc.e for flapper removal. I actually had a very tough time deciding between the Comp Werkes exhaust and the Leo's.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and suggestions. [bacon] [bacon]

Mini Iron Butt on a Monster? Would that be 100 miles?

One of the first things I had to change on my M1100 Evo was the seat, I couldn't even do 120 miles without getting seriously uncomfortable  :'(  . Maybe the seats on the 796's are softer or maybe you're just younger and can tolerate more  ;D

Your bike looks great though  [thumbsup]

That looks great!

I would get black bars, risers, and try to ditch the Leo badges on the pipes.
It's still looks way better than mine.

 [thumbsup]

Heya, we rode a grand total of 234 miles. Not gonna lie, it hurt, it hurt a lot... My ass was numb for a lot of the ride and my throttle wrist got numb constantly. TBH though, for me the ride and the adventure and the fact you get to see parts of your home area you don't usually see and discover outweighs any physical pain while riding. My buddy's Vmax was having front caliper issues so I lent him one of my other bikes, V-star 1100. I don't usually lend my bikes but he's a very experienced rider and a friend of mine for the past 16 years. It was a hell of an adventure.... I didn't take many 'cause we stopped very few times, mostly to rest a bit, gas and food but here's what i took:

This was our first stop. It's called Monumento al Jibaro. It's up in the mountains between Cayey and Cidra. It's a beautiful place. With bikes, up, with no bikes, down.

This is in-front of the old petrochemical station which closed down in the 70's and still standing... With bikes, up. No bikes, down.

In Mayaguez on the west side of the island, we stopped for gas and refreshments. Right behind the gas station we found this nifty little place called The Fruittery. It was very cool and they made all kinds of stuff from fresh fruit. Frappes, fruit and nut salads with honey, they even made fresh fruit Tacos. Best Berry Frappe I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy!

I't a little hard to see but far back behind the bike is the new Parque Aeolico. It's a huge piece of land with about about 120, 100 feet tall wind powered generators. It's still not working but when it starts it'll generate enough electrical power for around 1 million homes around the area.

Last toll before heading into some nice curvaceous mountain area! Woo Hoo!! As we were entering the mountains the sun started setting... It was insanely beautiful!

What a way to end the ride.... After hours upon hours of hard riding, we ended our journey at Heineken Jazz Fest in Ventana del Mar in Condado....

Of course!! Let me know!!  Now, how long has it been since you've been here? Ahhh, the old 1:20 ride to Ponce... Sadly it takes just about  45 minutes now at legal speeds.... Now a record would be about 32-38 minutes from San Juan.... I miss those 1:20 days.... Whenever you come down we can try a 1:20 to Mayaguez.... Now that's fun!!

I'm there 3-4 times a year, exception being the last 4.
45 with traffic?   :(. I'm talking the Mariot on isla verde to Ponce, downtown.
I'll be coming down soon and will gladly run that maya route with ya but isla celebrate must be visited.   [evil]

Yeah, Sunday ride with no traffic, only thing that kills you are the tolls, umless you have auto-expresso. Government fixed up the 22. From Isla Verde to Ponce, maybe 55 minutes? Theres been a lot of work on the 22 lately making it a very direct route now.... I much rather do the #10 through the center of the island up in the mountains, it's the best route by far.... [bacon]
Isla Celebrate? Do you mean Isla de Cabra?

I'll be down there, or up there in my case, for 3 Reyes. Muskrat, you can rent an old Multi from Ducati PR, but I didn't get a good vibe from them when I was last there a few years ago. It might have been cause there was only one guy in there that was very knowledgeable, but the Multis seemed to be decently maintained. I would have gone to Boqueron for lunch at a great place next to the beach that I used to go to when I was in college. Well, I hope it's still there. I would have probably spent the night in Mayaguez anyway visiting the alma mater.

I am so sorry... Ducati PR closed down last year. The Company closed them down cause of their awful service.... The dude was terrible. Before i bought my 796, the dude left me standing twice in front of the dealer with mone in hand.... A bunch of people wrote to the company...

So I guess you're Ducati PR now. I presume that you do all your own service. I don't know of any other place to rent bikes. I'm sure they're out there, but it's not so common.

Muskrat, I would definitely be in for a meetup!

Yeah, most of us do our own service. The DOG people here are very cool so we help each other out whenever we can, it's a small group, around 18 constants but we get by. The ones who have a lot of money still go to the mechanic that worked at the stealer whom is even more expensive now....

As far as renting bikes, the only one I know and have used is Cannan's but they only rent out Harleys.

Not sure what's worse having no dealer or having the old one back. The Ducati market in LatAm is an issue. There's no DNA so the bikes to the dealer are not exactly cheap. The profit margin is none existing unless you jack up the price and price yourself out of the market. The other option is to screw your customers on shottie service and overpriced accessories. If I were going to even consider opening a dealer in PR, I would look into partnering with a dealer in the US.

Anyway, it would be simply for the love of the brand since you would never do any money there unless Ducati decides they want to compete on the same level as the Japanese manufacturers.

Title: Re: So I just re-fell in love with my 796...
Post by: Raux on October 08, 2012, 03:25:48 AM
a couple of things.
DNA should be able to support PR as it's NA.
Second, I personally would think the allure of PR would bring a few quality wrenches to the island.

but, alas, you are right, without partnering there would be no way DNA would support a new dealer in PR.

Oppressive heat and road maintenance also don't help. PR has impressive scenery and the heat is not terrible while you're moving, but the potholes are the size of small canyons. It would hurt if I had to pay a huge premium to buy a Duc and it got caught in one of those. I would focus on Hypers and Multis. The other thing that probably hurt the dealer was the fact that the owner was a douche. Getting a quality tech would not be that difficult, but keeping him happy would have been.
