Title: shock swap on 696 with 848 shock... questions... specs... Post by: Raux on September 29, 2012, 01:23:07 PM SOOO before I hijacked He Man's thread too much, I've decided to start a new one
I did a bit of research and found the 848/1098/1198 shock is the same length as the 696/796/1100 shock. there are a few differences, but they are closer than I thought Travel: 60mm vs 58.5mm sbk vs monster Spring: 80n/m vs 115 n/m sbk vs monster Piston: 36mm vs 46mm sbk vs monster What does the piston difference mean in real world use? If I swap the springs would the shock work? or would the 80n/m with the 36mm piston result is similar characteristics of the 115n/m spring with 46mm piston? This is all assuming the housing of the horizontal reservoir doesn't hit the swingarm or subframe. Title: Re: shock swap on 696 with 848 shock... questions... specs... Post by: Speeddog on September 29, 2012, 01:57:48 PM That's a TTX shock, it's got a totally different damping arrangement, a twin-tube design with smaller piston.
Very nice hardware, but I doubt it would fit. Title: Re: shock swap on 696 with 848 shock... questions... specs... Post by: Raux on September 29, 2012, 02:07:15 PM Ok how about the stock 848 showa

Post by: brad black on September 30, 2012, 02:28:20 PM the damping profile would probably be wrong, but the actual shock itself is just a component to be built. talk to a good suspension shop, they should be able to tell you if the showa is a better base point and what they can do with it.
