Title: Oil selection
Post by: Silver duck on September 29, 2012, 06:37:23 PM
I bought a used 2007 s4r. No motor work just zard exhaust and Dyno tuned. The old owner was running agip 4t 20w-60 full synthetic. This oil is hard to find anyone know an equivalent.

Your bike calls for 10w-40 according to the owners manual. 20w-60 is too heavy for the plain bearings.

Any full synthetic moto specific oil will be fine...Mobil-1... Klotz...

I use Klotz. Any group 4 or 5 full synth will be fine in the proper viscosity.

Your manual allows use of 20w-50 above 32F, but 10w-40 is optimal.

Keep in mind that 'car oils' won't have the additives your gearbox needs.

Moto specific is important

I changed oil again, yesterday, and went, again, with Mobil1 Racing 4T 10W-40.
As CA banned cold weather (together with many useful things, unfortunately) long time ago, and since when the bike is hot some little funny noises seem to spawn to life, next time I am going to give 20W-50 a try.
