Title: Exhaust Post by: forza110 on September 30, 2012, 03:19:33 PM Hey guys, so:
if i want to do a can delete for my pipes and just leave the bike straight piped because i think it looks cool, what would i need to make sure the motor still runs properly and is there any thing i can buy that can just quiet it alittle because its so loud i'd def get pulled over for it and its an 8K dollar ticket where im from... thanks Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: Raux on September 30, 2012, 08:45:19 PM You'll have to tell us what bike
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: Slide Panda on October 01, 2012, 06:08:04 AM If you're looking at a ticket that's near or more than the cost of a number of bikes... why do it? It seems that where you're located is pretty serious about having approved exhausts
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: memper on October 01, 2012, 07:13:13 AM wha-whaaaaat???!! :o $8000? Where in the hell do you live, Librarytown?
I have straight pipes on my 99 750. It is loud but no louder than the choppers here in nyc. Though I will be making a short extension with a home made baffle to take the sharpness off of the "bark". Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: forza110 on October 01, 2012, 08:29:33 PM monster 796
its called a fix it-ticket. that means that i have until the court date to take care of the problem but i'd have to pay a ticket fee (400 bucks) and all court fees... My pops has a 357 custom chopper and my monster was louder than it without the pipes ;D i personally just love the way it looks, it adds so much more rawness to the bike in my opinion, just to big pipes. the monster to me, has a f*** you attitude ya know? it just doesn't really care about except its owner....sorry lol, i tend to personify all my vehicles... Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: Howie on October 02, 2012, 03:24:01 AM Huh? AFIAK there is no noise regulations on motorcycles other than must have a muffler in New Jersey.
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: forza110 on October 02, 2012, 04:40:46 AM well, this would be that...no muffler and i've had two car mechanics tell me about the ticket.
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: zooom on October 02, 2012, 05:44:34 AM SO...you run without the mufflers...you put em back on if you get the ticket and get it reinspected and after you are done...take em right back off...
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: forza110 on October 02, 2012, 05:50:40 AM yeah, that part isn't the problem. its more or less that i dont want to harm the motor. I don't how much airflow is changed by removing the exhaust. Obviously they have an affect on the flow, if i remove them im afraid of the engine running to lean, and losing mid-range torque or just burning or bursting a valve in there. ya know, because right now the bike is computerized to work with the exact stock set-up and if i change that, i also would probably void the warranty which i wouldn't want to do, and godforbid I make the beast with two backs the motor somehow...i'd completely ruin my day. [bang]
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: memper on October 02, 2012, 10:36:12 AM Another option is to take a set of exhaust cans, chop and core them so they are essentially straight pipes that LOOK like you have a muffler. But with how you are running it now you should have the FI adjusted.
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: Barney on October 02, 2012, 11:15:13 AM no motorcycle inspection in nj...
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: forza110 on October 02, 2012, 11:53:42 AM yeah i just don't like the way the cans look to be honest
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: He Man on October 02, 2012, 01:41:46 PM you are finding any reason to ditch them eh? lol
i ran open udder which is a bit different from straight pipes for 5,000 miles. did it harm the motor? Not that i can think of. I found other ways to destroy it. it did move my torque curve way into the unsuable range. i dynoed it at 82rwhp or something to that number, but it was a much better with the exhaust on. If you really wanted to get rid of the looks go with boomtubes or exbox. Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: kopfjÀger on October 02, 2012, 02:37:19 PM exhaust slightly overdone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vznGIS45Ch8&sns=em#)
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: herm on October 02, 2012, 02:42:53 PM ExBox
(http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm285/s2r1000/cliponsrightsideview.jpg?t=1210128725) Boom Tubes (http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j135/JoshFan1980a/New%20Ducati/DSC01769-1.jpg) Unknown (http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l8/deftone7/samducflat.jpg) The Udder (http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q49/ProTeal55/MONSTER/WINTER8.jpg) i ran my s2r from 500 miles to 5k with just the udder,...no issues other than some hearing loss. switched to the ExBox, and have been pretty happy with it ever since. Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: herm on October 02, 2012, 08:25:35 PM can you go into alittle more detail of an "open udder" i dont know what that is haha is it loud? You'll have to tell us what bike you still havent said which model/year/engine bike you have.. Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: forza110 on October 02, 2012, 08:42:46 PM i did, check the 4th post reply down...but its a 2012 monster 796
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: Raux on October 02, 2012, 09:11:26 PM I wouldn't run it without the mufflers then. I've done it for a test. there are issues.
pickup boomtubes and get a tune with powercommander or a reflash. Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: forza110 on October 02, 2012, 09:14:27 PM Ok, where do you recommend i get a reflash? do i just go to the dealer?
Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: He Man on October 03, 2012, 08:54:52 AM Dealers will not do it. Bike shops will. there are liability issues and conflict of intrest if you go to a dealer.
i would go with a PC before i go with a flash to be honest, those new PCVs can tune down int othe O2 range now i believe. Title: Re: Exhaust Post by: DucRS on October 03, 2012, 11:20:27 AM A good place to start is with the sponsors on this site.
I had Moto Wheels in Sac. CA do my reflash, good price and lighting fast service. |
