Title: Woodcraft clip on problem. Help please!
Post by: Arachnosold1er on October 08, 2012, 07:15:33 AM
I bought 2" rise Woodcraft clip ons for my 796 ABS. I am retaining the stock upper triple. My problem is that the clamp part of the clip on is hitting against the small brackets that guide the hydraulic lines. They are bolted to the bottom of the triple towards the inside. They keep me from being able to bring the clamp all the way up against the top triple as I would like. I tried to just take them off but they are closed around the lines and I would have to disassemble the line from the brake/clutch to get them all the way off. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do to correct the issue? Thanks.

Well, I went ahead and took off the little line guide thingys-for lack of a better term- and re-installed the clip ons. I was able to move the clamps up another 1/4" or so. There is still a small gap between the top triple and the clamp. The casting where the brackets were will not clear the clamp on the left fork. There is about a 3/32" gap. Now to get the lines all tucked in behind the light again.

Just had the same problem, I simply bent the wire frames to move them out.  Fitting the headlight is difficult and routing the hydraulics is horrible.  I got everything on but will take it all apart again once I'm l'm done for the winter to paint the top triple and headlight casting.  I'm wondering if I can mount the guides on the bolts securing the clipons to the forks thus allowing the bars to be a little higher with better hydraulic routing.  That headlight casting took some serious grinding to allow sufficient clearance, I'd like to know how anybody else has made out with the install?

I just dealt with this exact issue on my Woodcraft clipon install (2.5" riser on 2011 796 ABS).  The right side (when sitting on the bike) clipon barely cleared this bracket guide so it wasn't a problem.  The left side is what gave me the clearance issues that you noted.  My solution: install the wire bracket WITHOUT the washer as the washer is larger in diameter than the bolt and was causing the majority of the clearance issue.  I also took the dremel to the wire bracket and shaved just a very slight amount of material off the contact area to allow sufficient clearance of the clipon.  The clipon slipped right by the bracket after this mod.

Alternatively you can remove the bracket all together and you don't have to dissemble the hydro lines.  Just bend the wire clip open with pliers and then cut the rubber surround.  I considered doing this before I figured out my solution above.

Hope this helps!
