Howdy, all: Long-time Monster guy here; found my way from the other site.

Purchased the Mad Doctor kit recently from Motowheels. It's the integrated kit as shown on their site with brake light/turns/fender eliminator/plate. I called and spoke to Martin before ordering to confirm that the part number shown fits most Monsters across the board. My application is an '01 M900Sie. The part number I received matches the part number on the MW site.

Received the product. It looks OK, but not the highest level of craftsmanship I've ever seen for $270 (the side pods where the signals attach appear to be glued to the main body of the light). Anyway, it has the main body of the light with a harness, a separate harness to plug in, an obvious plate bracket, a bracket to attach the light to the frame and some hardware. None of it appears to be exactly what's shown in the instructions.

Speaking of instructions, well, they're a joke. Badly translated from Italian with no mention of how specifically to mount the system.

Anyone successfully installed one of these?

My tail is already cut and I was previously running a stock light with L-brackets. The stock plastic light broke, so I thought I'd upgrade.

When I attempt to install, the light bracket appears to mount beneath the tail, attached to the frame from beneath by the two bolts that hold the plastic mudguard on (just under the seat release mechanism). I can't see any other way it could possibly mount, but in that position, the light hangs down, nowhere near flush up to the cowl as it should sit.

I can take a couple pics if my explanation is unclear. Any help? Thanks.

Super: Looks like you mounted via L-brackets. The reason I bought this fairly expensive kit is it was supposed to work with the supplied brackets, hopefully reducing all the vibration that I get through the Ls.

Here's a couple of pics I took this morning. I can't see any way this will mount utilizing the provided bracket. Maybe I'm missing something ...

This the bracket so instead of angling down it angles up into the chopped subframe.

Not sure I'm following. The only way to mount that bracket flush is the way I've shown. If you flip it over to point upward, it doesn't fit into the subframe.

When I installed mine (similar, not the same kit) it was a bit of a jig saw puzzle.  There are 4 possible ways to install that bracket: Bracket above and below the horizontal plate.  The ends pointing up or pointing down.  You should be able to get a better fit...

With this bracket, you can't install from above as that would block the seat latch housing. Only option is to mount from below. Then you have two options from below. One is the way I've shown, which puts the light down too far. The second would be to flip the bracket, but then it doesn't fit into the subframe. I suppose I could notch it out with a dremel or grinder, but then it's non-returnable and I'm left with a $270 paperweight if it doesn't work out.

They aren't the easiest install. Its not just a bolt on mod. Your going to have to "Mc Guyver"  AZ.  I used a alumium plate. Cut it, shaped it, bent it.
 NOTE: Make sure U "Locktite" all nuts & bolts.

What about between the Al piece and the black piece (i.e., sandwich the MadDoctor bracket)?

To follow up, I spoke w/ Martin regarding this kit today. I asked for him last week before I ordered it, but evidently I spoke to someone else there. That person told me there were no fitment issues w/ the kit. When I spoke to Martin today, he said they've never installed one on a newer Monster.

Not sure if I'm going to send it back or try to modify it to work.

Was just wondering if you had to use their lic. plate mounting bracket? The way its set up it looks like it is detachable, thats what I would want. Make sure you post up how the electricals work if/when you get it done. I've been thinking of getting one for a while but $270  [bang].

The plate bracket is separate and you don't have to use it.

Someone needs to import that video (or is it just stills, I can't remember) from the group in San Francisco that got together for a tail chop event and used a sawzall to cut each others tail off.  Actually, just the mental image of such a thing would be good enough for most to appreciate the humour.

Thought I'd spend some more time with this (difficult when it's 110 degrees in your garage). The kit includes a replacement wiring harness that plugs directly into the stock harness with the other end in the relay box wired directly to the light setup. Basically it appears to be "plug and play." It is not.

Plugging the connection together does exactly nothing. Nada. Zip.

I'm frustrated enough. This thing is going back.

Hmmm. Mine was plug & play. No hassles in the wiring end of it.

If it's not too late - how about cutting away the middle piece of the bracket, so it/two parts will fit on top of the subframe? From that position it would also be possible to point them upwards?

Just thinking out loud - I know I would have returned them a long time ago - not much of McGyver in me :P
