Title: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: Kirk Allen on October 15, 2012, 12:00:57 PM What do you guys think? I havent actually ridden the bike yet. Im stuck working elsewhere till the end of the month... My buddy that owns the shop had it at Ascari Race Resort in southern Spain this weekend and was testing some mods they did to the suspension and of course try out the wheels. He said its a massive difference.(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8475/8091340020_d10f21f755.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/72392530@N08/8091340020/)

You need to put the link to the actual pic in the image tags. Not the link in the address bar from your set of pics. Maybe it's something I missed about the Mamba, but to my eye it seems like the wheel nut has been mounted without the conical spacer ? Also 1 - did you get new 190 tires? Also 2 - how is the clearance by the swingarm on the left side (6" wheels won't leave much room on the left side) Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: Kirk Allen on October 15, 2012, 08:13:42 PM Hello stopintime. I havent even seen the bike yet! Ill be home in a couple days ill let you know how that clearence is. I didnt get the 190 tires, was a fairly new set of rosso IIs on there in 185. Thinking maybe the super corsa 190 next?
Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: stopintime on October 16, 2012, 02:01:44 AM I have no FHE with the 7 spoke Mamba, but my 5 spoke 5.75" came with a spacer to go between the hub and the wheel. It's purpose is to clear the rear brake caliper (not an issue on the 7 spoke) and to clear the swing arm. When my wheel was mounted with the spacer, two things happened - wheel misalignment and the wheel nut didn't catch enough threads to show the axle holes for the safety clip. Now, IF that second issue is the case on your wheel - maybe it's "solved" by leaving the conical spacer out. I'm pretty sure that would be a bad idea. I can't really tell from the picture, but worth checking IMO.
Maybe a 185 tire is fine (didn't know they make that), but the norm is 190 on a 6" wheel. I run a 190/55 Metzeler M5 and it performs well and it clears in all directions. With the eccentric hub in the ~6-7 o'clock position and normal sprocket sizes/chain links, there is enough clearance between the tire outer circumference and swingarm too. Take a look when you can and keep us posted [thumbsup] Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: zooom on October 16, 2012, 04:08:29 AM look up twolanefun on here...he has em and he said it was a night and day difference on his S2R1K along with the suspension having been sorted out...Ducpond did all his work and that bike runs like a scalded cat!

*EDIT* Is that a Jacques Villeneuve replica helmet I see on your Flickr page? Did he? I thought Gene had Dymags. Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: scduc on October 16, 2012, 06:54:26 PM Looking at those makes me want to [puke]. I actually need a new rear rim and have thought about selling lefty to get a BST. I guess I have a set my priorities straight.

Oooo....you are right...I brainfarted...he has the 2 piece mag spokes with CF rim Dymags...my bad...and then he has the Carrozzeria's on his ST3... Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: DRKWNG on October 17, 2012, 02:09:34 PM BSTs made a HUGE difference on the SC.
Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: Kirk Allen on October 21, 2012, 08:09:02 AM Stopintime. I tried to get a few pics of the clearance. You are right they dont make 185s, i have 180s Its hard to tell from the pics but i have a hard time to imagine a 190 would have the clearance...

The point is that a 6" wheel should have a 190 tire to maintain the shape that works. I hope you find a 190 tire that fits - much better result - you deserve best result with those wheels!
Still can't tell from the photos - is the conical spacer there? Is there a spacer between the wheel and hub? Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: Hershell on October 23, 2012, 05:24:19 PM Love the wheels, good job. [thumbsup]

Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: needtorque on October 24, 2012, 03:40:16 AM 190 vs 180 is about 0.2 inches added to the width on each side of the tire. It is not much wider and would probably fit but just be close.

Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: Kirk Allen on February 15, 2013, 11:57:51 PM Hi Stopintime, I finally switched to the 190 rear tire. New Pirelli Supercorsa, there is a still a lot of clearence!

New Pirelli Supercorsa, there is a still a lot of clearence! Good to know [thumbsup] Top speed will make the tire expand, diameter, so depending on where your eccentric hub is positioned (chain length, wear, sprocket size) I suggest keeping an eye on the tire just to be 100% sure there is no contact against the front section of the swingarm. Title: Re: BST wheels for my S2R (pics) Post by: stopintime on February 16, 2013, 08:53:43 AM wouldn't that depend on tire shape and tire pressures Maybe - I don't know.... I contacted a couple of manufacturers with the question when I switched from 180/55 to 190/55. Only Metzeler replied and the answer was reassuring - can't remember exactly, but I believe it was 4 or 5 mm expanded radius at 275km/h. Other manufacturer's tires might perform differently - if so, the eccentric hub position can become a critical factor - at least in theory.
