Hate to be the guy in the corvette.

Again,why i think there should be better and more stringent training for motorcyclist.

Looked at the photos one by one.  Talk about target fixation.  Think it's frame 22 where the guy looks like he lands on his feet.  For a moment.

He ran out of lean angle on the pig.
The guy in the Vette did what he could.

Looks to me like he touched a hard part or something and stood it up as a result.  prob shouldn't have been paying so much attn to the camera and a little more to the road iyam. 

I support riders rights, but who honestly thinks it was the cars fault? cuz I have a feeling that some lawyer will try to prove the driver of the car was at fault.

I don't see any argument that could be made to make this the cars fault.

The rider was distracted hamming it up for the camera. Then to me looks like you guys have said ran out of angle scraped some bits, had an oh shit moment. This is one of the best examples of target fixation I've seen. As soon as he sees the car he straightens out and drives right into it. He's really late on the brakes too, not sure it would have helped anyway.

You guys see that the airbag in the vette went off?

That sucks, hate to be either of them.  Is that a tire track that old timer follows all the way into the opposite lane?  I wonder how often this happens at that corner.

too bad photos 1087-1092 are missing. the bike somehow turns around and loses the front wheel.

the flight position in 1093 is impressive. 

Note to self: don't wave at photographers in the middle of a turn when you are riding a cruiser with no ground clearance.

Hopefully no one got hurt.

2nd theory is the cruiser had a Duc MotoGP front end and the rider just lost it! [laugh]

corner entry was.....exactly what you would expect.   It ripped the forks in half....looks violent....bad day indeed!

I looked at the individual pics on the photog's website when it was posted on the local forum.  Pic 19, you can see the front wheel & tire were ripped completely off the spokes.  Ducatamount was right on lean angle.  Just before the apex, you can see he's all but touching the pavement on the inside.  Post impact, it looks like he could stick the landing, but he lands hard right on his ass.  The driver was either distracted or totally misjudged  the corner.  It could be one of the many decreasing radius turns, and he just went in too hot.  Once he was in trouble, he certainly fixated on the 'Vette though, he stood the bike up before he ever grabbed the brakes.

Rider was in better shape than you might think. only thing likely broken was a wrist, rest is just rash and lots of bruising.  I'm thinking that sitting might be an issue for some time for the rider.  Driver of the 'Vette was fine.  Airbag deployed on the 'Vette, and that with the fiberglass damage (front fender exploded when bike hit, and there's probably a lot of door & rear fender damage too) along with the minor off-road excursion, the 'Vette is likey totaled, not to mention the bike.  That's gonna be an expensive insurance claim.

Actually you probably aren't far off the mark.    ;D    In over 20 years of flying hang gliders I found the greatest contributing factor to accidents and crashes was the presence of a camera.  I bet you that is significantly valid for motorcycles as well.

Ugggggg...that is ugly! I've driven that road (US 129 / Tail of the Dragon) in our vette, it's a FUN road but you've got to keep your eyes on the road, the next curve, etc. There are photographers all along the road, wife and I ran it this past August, there were at least 4 photographers I noticed along the way (probably more like 6). Every picture they took of me I was looking at the next corner...had a few close calls with bikes coming close to me, some dummies were riding the CENTER LINE through the corners...crazy. Of course, they were cruisers. I would like to ride it on my Duc someday but I've gotta tell ya, with all the other folks on that road that *don't* know how to ride, it gives me hesitation. Granted, we were on it on a Saturday, next time it will be on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Exactly, not knowing age or experience, you have to chalk that one up to stupidity. My guess is that guy probably has 100k of riding. Mid 50's in age, no amount of training can stop this, unless we can train riders to pay attention to only the road and that's never going to happen.

That sweet apple bottom is going to be hurting in the AM. +1 for the Vett guy did all he could.

You know what's sad? When I moved from NY to CT a few years back I stopped riding and my NY MC license didn't come over.  I had to retake the tests for my CT MC license.

It was quite an eye-opening experience, because the evaluator passed a WHOLE LOT of people that I sure as heck would have failed.  I just kept thinking to myself "Man, I hope these guys are never riding around me".

I have worked many winter seasons in the ski industry and my wife is a nurse in a hospital.
We both noticed an increase in injuries with the advent of the Go-Pro.
Showing off for the camera will get you in trouble.  ;)

It sure looks to me like he comes off the brakes for a while, between img 1083 and 1086.  I wonder how long that was, and not sure why he would have stopped braking!  sucks for sure, good thing the guy didn't come through the windshield and hit the driver of the vette, that surely would've sucked!

Man, I hope he recovers in time for Christmas.

I actually slowed down because of my Go Pro because I feel like I'm being monitored to be critiqued later

Alternatively, in order to get a license for a car, you have to ride a motorcycle for 2 years first.
