Title: Air Temp function on display not working?
Post by: Stormtrooper on October 29, 2012, 11:06:09 AM
I just noticed in my 2011 796 ABS owners manual that is says my instrument cluster has the ability to display air temperature (T_AIR) on page 18.  It says you can cycle through the multi-display in this order: TRIP > TRIP FUEL (If active) > CLOCK > T_AIR > back to TRIP.  Mine shows TRIP, TRIP FUEL, and CLOCK only.  Is this a function only available in EU or something? I assume this is the same on all 09+ 696/796/1100 Monsters.  I searched and found nothing on the forum.  Anyone know whats up with this?

I don't know about the 796, but my 1100 didn't display temp with the stock ECU. It was displayed with the DP ECU and when I had my stock ECU flashed with a Rexxer map.

Not sure if the 796 is different, but my '11 696 displays the temp.

Really?? I have DP ECU in my 09 1100 and have never seen it display air temp. Do I have to turn this on in the menu somewhere?

I just scrolled through the menu and it was there. It's not like it's a great feature the reading is never accurate.  [roll]
Oh, my m1100s is a 09 also.

Yup really  :).

Stock 696 has air temp dispay.
Stock M1100s doesnt.
M1100s with DP ECU does have it (just like DN said).
I have no idea about 796 or M1100(not s) though...

I still can't find it.. is it in the programming menu where you have to hold the mode button at the same time turning the key on? Or is it just in the main menu after the display boots up? Or maybe there is no sensor or could it be that it's not plugged in? I would think there would be an error code if that was the case.

Thanks

It looks like the T_AIR feature is not active on the 796 and 1100 models for some reason.  The odd part is that is clearly says it should be in the owners manual.  Not a big deal, especially if the temp is wrong like they say.  The air temp sensor is buried in the chassis so I imagine it reads much higher than ambient anyways.

Main menu.

Are your Termis slip-ons or a full system. The DP ECU that I had was from a full system.

I have the slip on kit. I went through all the menu's again and there is no option for the ambient temp sensor. Checked the owners manual and there is no mention of it at all except when it references the electrical diagram. I guess it's not a big deal either as long as the ECU doesn't rely on it for anything. Just strange that some models of the same year would have it and others don't  ???

No ambient air readout on my 2011 796 ABS with stock NAS ECU. 696's have it though.

Same here.

So, it seems stock M1100, stock M796 and M1100 with DP ECU (from slip-on kit) does NOT have the semi-useless air temp feature enabled.

Whilst stock M696 and M1100 with DP ECU (from full system kit) does have it.
