Title: Anyone still have a copy of the original DML terms?
Post by: SteveG on May 06, 2008, 10:37:14 PM
Sorry to sound like a scratched record... but, I resent the fact that our posts were sold to a company who is now using them to generate income. I don't recall agreeing to anything on the DML that forfeit my rights to my posts; to the contrary I thought it was explicitly stated that my posts are SOLELY my own, no doubt to protect the board from liability for anything I might have posted. Ideally the new admin would just delete my posts upon request, but not only do they not seem willing to do that, now they appear to have disabled post editing making it impossible for me to delete my own posts. L-A-M-E.

I'm looking for a copy of the original terms I agreed to, because never having agreed to be bound by any other terms, those are the ones I will hold them to. If in fact the original terms were that my posts became the property of the DML I'm pretty much SOL. That's not the way I remember it though...

Blame Canada

It's possible to delete them, it's just a pain.

Ah, thanks for the tip! Unfortunately messages deleted via that mechanism can be easily undeleted by the mods... bummer.

Then the techs are going to have quite a bit of work to do. Me and quite a few other people are going through and deleting ours...

I'm deleting mine too!

They are going to have a helluva time fixing what we do!   :e:v

Now I'm glad I lost a couple of thousand posts when the server was upgraded!

If you edit the post and make it read xxxxxxxxxx they'll have to work much harder to restore it, and everyone browsing the threads will see it... I'm going that route instead of the deletion route. I'm going to need to pour a glass of something strong though, this sucks.

Any time I try to even get to my profile, I get sent to some other new member EduardoMonte.  You can't even see your own profile.

the original terms are the SAME as the terms for this board.  they are the stock SMF terms, you can see them by logging out and clicking on "register" .. you have to click "I agree".

those are the sole terms that the old board used.  very basic terms of use.

Probably something very simple like:

$query = "UPDATE posts SET post_text = 'make the beast with two backs VS' WHERE user_id = 1234";
mysql_query($query);

Now, if only you had the access the mysql access that would allow that.

Or, you could do it command line even easier...

I can't edit any of my old posts over there, only ones posted since the re-design. Any idea how I could accomplish that?

I haven't reviewed our agreement recently (You'll see we started planning this in january).  while we'd love to keep qand share good tech info with everyone we can, if someone gets pissed at me or us for any reason and wants their posts gone please let me know.

if people are worried about another sale of a forum I can say that there are seven of us that currently don't want that...and more details can be found in the mission statement and other group comments about why we're here.

yes I know jeff started the dml wit the same ideas.  I can't tell you why this is diferent other than to explain that every minute I am here I am losing money...so its got to be fun, not business.

I'll stop rambling.  I know this is a threadjack.

Chris
