I'm looking at upgrading my exhaust system from the setup I have now which is the termignoni slipons high mount with the stock headers (collectors).
Any suggestions?

I also just spent a few hours scowering the interweb and could not find anyone selling performance headers or "spaghetti pipes" for a 2001 M900 EFI. Does anyone know where I can find a set? For less than $600?

i believe silmotor still make them, altho your price is optimistic i think.  a customer of mine got some fairly recently.

Ducati made a couple DP full sets. I've got a '916' style full system on my 900. Hard to find, but do exist.

Hmmmm, a DP setup would be nice to find.

What headers bolt up from other models to the 900cc air cooled engine?

This was a 900 specific kit made by/for DP - not modded up 916 headers. It's a good bit of tube that runs about into a cross over near the riders right heal (like the 916) then up to two high-mout cans in roughly the 'normal' position. It's also 50mm tubes vs the stock 45mm headers so the engine breathes a little more freely.

It's 11 (if I remember correctly) sections of tube, not including the cans... 

Good luck finding these headers.  The problem is that not a lot of these were sold when they were offered. Most people just went with the slip-ons and called it a day.  Also, I'm pretty sure Ducati sold these as a complete system.  This means you will need the slip-ons that came with the DP Spaghetti exhaust system because the mufflers of this system are slip fit mufflers.  Or you can have a good exhaust guy cut the intake tube to your termis and then weld on a slip fit style tube. 

Here is a picture of the DP Spaghetti headers for the 1000DS Monsters.  It was offered in the 2003-2005 catalog as a complete system including mufflers.

My mother always said I did things the hard way and choosing my upgrade preferences is no different.


So what do other people do for exhaust upgrades to early 2000's monster?
-custom?
-mickey mouse?
-just slipons?

I'm open to all options.

Sil used to make the spaghetti header, they have been down for awhile and I doubt they are gonna spin that pipe up. It can be made by a competent fabricator.

The nice thing about the Ducati Performance full system is that it has the engineering behind it.  It is not just somebody guessing what a good exhaust should look like.  It actually made a big difference on my bike.  It made gains in the mid-range that could be felt on the street.  Also made the bike pull smoother.  I'm not sure the Sil Moto version would work as well.  It didn't seem to have the same look as the DP version.

Hey Travman, the thing is that the 1000 can actually flow in the heads. Older 900/800/750/695/620 motors have bent intake ports. The spaghetti looks great, but isn't much more than a cosmetic upgrade for those bikes. Opening up the heads (mbpducati.ca) on my old 900 and the original header still let me get 104 hp.

Nice to see more "usual tuning tricks" actually working for the newer bikes, like the 1100/1000/796/696

Maybe follow the oem pattern but in 45mm and "ported" crossover. Would be easier and cheaper to get made. Staintune used to do one in highly polished stainless.

I was talking to the parts guy in the Ducati section of Southern California Motorcycles and he said that the stock exhaust on the the older monsters was pretty much as good as you can get. Any upgrade to the headers (without head work) wouldn't make any noticeable difference on the street.

chris - I visited the MBP website. Do they do work on 2V heads? Do I just send in mine and wait for them to get done? Do you have any idea on the cost of this option?

As far as my current setup is concerned (stock heads and CF termi slip ons) it will be a greater advantage i think to invest in a bazza or dynojet power commander to boost power/performance.
Unless someone has a better idea.....?

one of my customers put some silmotors on his 900 carb and said it made a noticeable difference to the midrange.

just add some cross over bypass pipes to the std headers.

At $1600 I cant really even humor the thought.    :-[

Somehow, I didn't notice the replies to this. Guy at MBP doesn't stock heads for his headwork. You send him a set. I've got a set of 800 heads that are done and on my shelf. They were for my personal S2R but I'm not going to mess with that bike.

Instead of a 900, better money spent on a 1000 and putting FCRs on it. All stock comes in at 95 hp!
