Title: Shoei RF1100 vs ??????
Post by: SteveO. on October 31, 2012, 07:02:29 PM
I've been looking at picking up a new helmet over the winter and tried on and like the fit of the RF1100.  Main reason I'm looking is I want something light and quiet but when I priced it out and did some reading at Revzilla, they don't get great ratings for noise.  What do you think of yours?  Would you suggest the RF1100 or something else?  Looking to spend up to $500.

Second, suggestions on the best place to get a deal on the RF1100, or whatever else you suggest?  Local prices are ridiculous.  Thanks. ....Steve

Mediocre on noise, but I (you should to) wear ear plugs, so I find it not a problem.

Really like my Shoeis - this'll be my third. They just fit right - and that counts for a ton. You could spend a lot of time, effort and cash trying to chase a helmet that's more quiet... but if it doesn't fit well, you'll hate it.

But if you want to keep on the research - WebBikeWorld has lots of detailed reviews

I almost always wear earplugs, but the noise is still enough that quieter couldn't hurt.

I really liked the fit of the helmet, which is why I figured it was the one to go with, until I read a reveiw that said it wasn't very quiet.  I'll read through your link though, but wanted to make sure I was getting the best for the money in the $4-500 range.  Thanks. ...Steve

Buy the whisper strip kit; makes all the difference.
I have the XR1100 and I found it to be very noisy as it's a sport/touring helmet and I use it on the 848. But the whisper strip makes it very quiet. You won't believe the difference.

I like everything about my 1100, plugs so sound I cannot say.  I found a new from a dealer firestrike RF1100 on Ebay for 368.00 as that color was being discontinued.  Probably they will do the same this year......

Looks nice.  I'll have to see if I can find a local dealer to have a look at one.  Thanks.

Anyone have a lead on a sale price on a matte black RF1100?  Cheers. ....Steve

I've always found Competition Accessories to have the best pricing on helmets.  http://www.compacc.com/Helmets-Street-Helmets-Full-Face/Shoei/0 (http://www.compacc.com/Helmets-Street-Helmets-Full-Face/Shoei/0)

Sale? Not likely unless it's a color/graphic that's being phased out - so new with tags, old stock. Some brands like Shoei, Arai, Sidi just never really go on sale unless it's that phase out of older items.
