Hello all,
I have a monster 796 2011 and i drive this bike in tropical weather (hot - day temperatures hovering around 90 deg F or more). i have done about 3000 km till date (in the past 9 months since I bought it new). After stop and go riding for a few minutes, the engine starts mis-firing, sputters and does not allow me to raise the RPM beyond 2000 to 2500, and power is completely lost, and does not allow me to ride. It feels like there was fuel blockage. I have to simply give up and stop the vehicle by the road side, cool it off for more than one hour, before I can restart and ride again.
This has happened thrice till date to me. The engine oil temperature shows only 3 bars or max 4 bars (out of a total of 7). But certainly cooling off the engine helps every time to restart and ride. A Ducati service technician says, it could be due to regulator rectifier over heating. But there are 3 other monsters around this area, and none have reported this problem thus far.
The bike is still under warranty, but since there is no dealer nearby (nearest is 1000 km away!), I am seeking help from the forum members to help identify the problem, so that I can approach Ducati with some prior information.
Please let me know if any other monster owners have faced this problem before, and if so, how you solved it. Others, please advice on what you think could be the problem. Thanks in advance.
Someone will probably post with useful info, but if you're not able to diagnose it, can you have the dealer send you a new regulator?

+1.

Too bad the dealer is so far away. Ducati would prefer full read-outs from their diagnostic hand-held computer before making recommendations.
The rectifier sounds like a wild guess, although possible. So are about 40 other things. As it's heat-related, look for connections which could become loose with heat or a chaffed wire which could be shorting out. From there it could be a coil or ECU or...
Good luck!
If im not mistaken im pretty sure i got Ducati roadside with my 796 with the purchase. Worse case the dealer might be nice enough to pick it up. BUT that being said i have no idea as i have not had this problem occur with my 796.
