Title: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Barney on November 13, 2012, 05:32:43 PM ...but i like it so much [evil]
(http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/550913_10100775212494854_759495948_n.jpg) if we're being honest, that old shotgun exhaust was ugly and personally i really didnt like the way it sounded. this is a serious improvement. never riding without earplugs again though. i really wanted an s*r style high shotgun, but short of making it myself (and I thought long and hard about doing so), i couldn't find one. I'm hoping after the exhaust wrap or ceramic coat this winter, the whole system just sort of disappears... the thing looks larger in real life than in the photo - i'm quite happy with the fit and finish and build quality. I'm sure it's all in my head, but the butt dyno tells me the bike likes it too... bazzaz goes in this weekend though [thumbsup] more pics to come Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud Post by: Stormtrooper on November 16, 2012, 08:13:07 PM Are you using the db killer?
Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud Post by: Barney on November 17, 2012, 05:10:17 AM nope. though I may pick one up eventually. it's not much louder at idle, but it waay deeper.
WOT sounds [evil] ...bazzaz goes in today, so i'll take it out for another test ride, and then a real ride tomorrow...that should be enough to let me know whether or not i'm gonna need it. Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (Now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Barney on November 17, 2012, 03:49:32 PM wrapped the exhaust - i think i like it. your thoughts?

Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Stormtrooper on November 17, 2012, 05:51:22 PM Black exhaust wrap FTW!
Your off to a good start. Some free mod tips since the bug has bitten: Lose the "top hat" windscreen and passenger pegs for a much cleaner look. Remove the blinker extenders arms as well - this is a subtle yet effective aesthetic improvement. This isn't free but it's cheap...paint the silver exhaust clamps black to match the wrap and can. You'd be completely blacked out then and that exhaust would seem to "disapear". Cheers! Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (Now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: kopfjäger on November 17, 2012, 06:38:41 PM wrapped the exhaust - i think i like it. your thoughts? Ceramic coat it. ;) Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Barney on November 17, 2012, 09:34:52 PM Yeah they'll def get painted. Didn't think about it till after I started playing w the wrap though...
I looked into getting the pipes coated cause it definitely looks more pro, but the quote was 800, and I figured that I could do a lot better elsewhere for that much loot. I really like the looks of the dark pipes even more than I imagined, but that's still a tough pill to swallow for pretty much purely aesthetics The wind screen and blinker mods are already in the plans too Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: kopfjäger on November 17, 2012, 09:56:08 PM $800 :o Did you contact Performance Coatings ?
Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Barney on November 18, 2012, 05:11:10 AM yeah it seemed expensive to me too. after looking at the prices on their site, i may need to look into this some more...
Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: HotIce on November 18, 2012, 07:32:10 AM I like the CW look, but I prefer the natural color, not black.
Being too loud, and reports of blown rivets kept me out of it, so far. Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Barney on November 18, 2012, 12:03:54 PM i like the natural color too, but I figured it'd look silly if/when i decided to have the rest of the exhaust ceramic coated. we'll see how it holds up.
Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (Now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: ungeheuer on November 19, 2012, 01:35:13 AM Ceramic coat it. ;) I used HPC to ceramic coat my M696 pipes..... a LOT less the $800.... beautiful job they did too [thumbsup]Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: racingj on December 30, 2012, 02:54:14 PM Shift 1100, nice ! I have the very same CW bolt on muffler as you. You should go ahead and purchase one of the DB killers to reduce the top end noise . You can modify the DB killer slightly and still be friends with your neighbors as well. I also have priced the exhaust coating company's all are expensive. As for the wrap, this might have to be taken off when you need to change out the internal filter that is placed just below the oil sight glass. I believe it requires the removal of the exhaust @ the middle slip-fit junction. Modification of the DB killer for my personal taste was 6, 3/16" holes evenly spaced and 180 degrees opposite, then take the front of the DB killer and angle the entrance to a 45 degree angle instead of the 90 degree stock. Still looks cool as hell !! Report back on the Bazzaz processor .

Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Barney on December 31, 2012, 05:35:07 AM Thanks Racingj
there's no baffle in there right now - it's just straight muffler right now. It's really loud, but with hearing protection it actually doesn't bother me. i've gotten a few several hour rides on it, but I guess we'll what happens once it gets warm enough to star riding on the regular again. Haven't gotten around to getting the bazzaz in yet...got to cold around here and I lost interest in tearing the thing apart. I was planning doing the screen myself when the time comes, but I think I can do a better job wrapping and I've got plenty of extra material left so i'm not worried about that. still looking into ceramic coatings too... [thumbsup] Title: Re: cw exhaust on an 1100 = loud (now with more of your DRV of Pics!) Post by: Rossi on January 08, 2013, 03:15:27 PM I just purchased my new monster yesterday and wow. My only concern is cw slip on. Personally I think it makes the bike look and sound so much better. But I'd really like to know if anyone here can assist me in telling me whether I need the bike tuned or will it damage the engine. Ducati claim it will and will void my warranty. Thanks

Im sure you could take a pic with some measurements to a good fabricator and get the same things made for much less, right? |
