Title: Cat-eliminator
Post by: lillo on November 21, 2012, 03:45:58 PM
I wanted to know why some people when they install their termi kit, they remove the O2 sensor?  & also what does a cat-eliminator do? LMK

They usually remove the O2 sensor because its easier to just throw a custom or preset map on the ECU that comes with the Termi's I think. The cat eliminator does exactly what it says eliminates the catalytic converter. No need for it really unless your country or state requires you to have it :-\ same with the fork reflectors  [cheeky]. Removing the cat will also remove some weight from the bike and you will notice a handling difference and also change the sound possibly give you a bit more power. In addition to removing the O2 with the ECU they'll also remove the security thing for the key forgot what its called.

I have the termi kit on my 696 (DP ECU, race filter and cf pipes). Should I (do I need to) remove or unplug the O2 sensor? I'm confused, some say that the termi kit automatically bypasses it and I also have read I should unplug it. Can someone clarify please.

The o2 sensor is not bypassed on the new monster termi kits.

okay, so does that mean I cannot remove it then or should I?

to remove it you'll need to get your ECU reflashed. then you'll need a custom map on a PCV or similar device.

unless you're really searching for more power, leave it alone.

that is to bad that the race Ecu from the termi kit does not bypass it...I would not mind the extra power. But yeah I think I will leave it alone, I dont wanna get a Power commander or such.

@Raux how do you like your setup. So you have the dp ECU with PCV and did you remove the O2 sensor. Did you get a cat-eliminator? I'm curious  [cheeky]

I have the DP ecu, pc v and custom exhaust. there's no cat (on the 696 they sit in the stock exhaust, so most aftermarket exhaust cans remove it automatically)
I also have a K&N air filter and opened intake system similar to the Termi kit for the 1100

the system needs tuning, but I have more power for sure, with stock gearing it tries to lift the front with just power, not clutching it. With a 14t sprocket I'm certain the front would lift.

It's a real improvement. Once I get it tuned on a dyno, it will be truly improved. Hope to do that this winter with a local shop. The last improvement I want to do before that is a port and polish on the heads. But that's cash, i attempted to work on a test head myself and trashed the exhaust port, I'll leave it to the experts. this along with the adjustable ergal cam rollers will allow the tuning guys to really draw out the power of my bike. I MAY get the reflash to eliminate the O2 sensors as well, but again, I have to figure the cash flow.
the heads will  cost nearly $1000 alone for port/polish, add dyno $500 and reflash $250, you can see why i'm waiting.

The 696 has potential more than most think IMO.
it is using large valves, large throttle body and pretty good flowing heads (similar to 1100), so there's tons of breathing for more power, it just needs to be blue printed to get the full potential out.

I agree with you on: "The 696 has potential more than most think IMO." Nice your bike is basically fully loaded and sounds like you have a plan for this winter- improving your bike even more. I have an open intake like the one on the 1100, I might want to get 14t sprocket but IDK ( its better for the city but decreases your max speed). Well if I have some extra cash to spend I would probably do what you are doing and ask for your advice...I love Monsters  [Dolph]. Thanks for your input. If you have some time you should put up some pics of your beast :)

reducing your top speed shouldn't be an issue unless you're on the highspeed autobahn or do track days on larger tracks.
The 14t is like free low end hp. a great mod for less than 100mph duty.

it never bugged me until now but when I installed my termi kit... it reads m 696 racing EU. The units are in km/h... how do I get em in mi/hr? Do i need to bring in to dealer?

nope, it's in your manual how to change it.

I'll look for the link on here as well.
