where can i go to talk about other bikes? i just got back from a *spirited*, as anthony from revzilla would say, ride on my BMW S1000RR and... and... and... I JUST HAVE TO BLURT ABOUT IT!!!  [bow_down] [Dolph] [bow_down] !!! I absolutely LOVE that bike -- its smooth power delivery, its effortless, breath-taking acceleration, its amazing, confidence-inspiring braking. UNREAL! but i don't want to SHOCK HORROR talk about it with anyone on the BMW forum, or whatever it is that those guys use to communicate. i imagine loads of jap-bike guy speaking in broken German...

WHAT AN AMAZING BIKE! if only the ergos didn't leave my long, wiry legs feeling worse than the old monster... i have a panigale on order, because it is so much more comfortable to tall guys, and it has that ducati sound. but i'm getting used to the high-rev, reliable german scream of the S1K now, and i'm afraid i'll miss the SMOOOOOOOOOTHNESS (had the bimmer since July, got to give it back soon... [bang]).

i've been a fan of that bike since it came out...can't justify picking one up (yet) due to lack of experience on the road and/or i'll get arrested. but i will own a blue/red/white one at some point in the not too distant future...

ps: what is it you do that you have to "give it back"?  can you tell whoever it is you're giving it back to that it's my turn next? and that i get the 1199 when youre done with that one too?

the bmw has an incredible electronics package but that 1199 chassis/power is just unbelievable.

course, the bmw doesn't burn you to a crisp...

i am a journalist and i was testing it out and using it for a track package. awesome machine, and there is nothing that i have ever experienced in the world of motorcycling that even comes close to bmw customer service. incredible. the manhattan shop is sheer luxury.

so the bike was such a mind-blowing experience that i told them to leave it here and give me a price. i wanted a bike for the track but i also would inevitably use it on the road, even for commuting -- my monster is sometimes, well, a monster on the crappy roads from westchester to manhattan. but the panigale underseat heat was my such a concern that i figured it was out of the running and i'd go with the bimmer.

trouble is, my knees really are up at my chest on the S1K, and the angles are much sharper than anyone should ever have to endure on a regular road ride. the panigale is so roomy, and supposedly the company has dealt with the heat issue (doubt it). the other issue i have is that the bimmer feels heavier on the track, more difficult to turn. so the panigale was the ultimate winner, and when they announced the base model would have ABS as standard, that sealed the deal.

what i really need is the smooth running of the bimmer (read: four cylinders plus german engineering) and BMW's unbelievable dealership kush, with the lightness of the panigale, the sound of a ducati, and the room of a bike that feels like it was designed for a big guy like me. the bmw does sound cool, but if i had to choose between the engineered scream of speed and the deep, rich rumble of the L-twin, i guess i'd choose the duc 80% of the time.

some part of me wants to just buy both, but the rest of me knows how ridiculous that would be, if i could even swing it financially. how cool would it be to have a pani in ducati red and a bimmer in bright bavarian blue??

gotta throw the mv in the mix if you're talking about sound  [evil] those things sounds like an F1 car...  also, i want your job.
