Title: speedometer repair
Post by: bachus2001m900dark on December 04, 2012, 03:12:08 PM
has Anyone dismantled an analog (with needle) cable driven speedometer.  bike fell when kick stand was not completely down.  naturally i threw myself between the ground and the bike and ended up saving it from droping but my hand crushed the Trip reset knob on the left side.  i took what was left of the knob off.  Some of the screw is still there becase it was always seized.  The problem i have is that the brass or brass colored knob (that goes up in the plastic knob was bent. and now the trip has a problem rolling past 100miles and then 200 miles and then 300 miles.   wouldnt be a big deal except the low fuel light is always on and i have been relying on the tripometer to save me from spending time on the shoulder of the road.
has anyone dismantled one of these.  it seams to be a sealed unit.
bike is 2001 m900 I.e dark

Speedometer?  on my monster? Mine stopped working about 15Kmi ago.  I'd try to fix it, but it's just that it's the last gauge I look at, under any circumstance...
I'm just not very concerned at all with knowing my speed  :(

I took my GF's 05 M620 speedo apart to replace the lens due to it cracking...it wasn't terribly hard...

thanks guys.  i think i will be trying to "re"-straighten out the brass post (for the trip reset knob). I am thinking that when i straightened it the first time with needle nose pliers that i straightened the end that i can see but reduced clearence internally.

ill keep everyone posted
