Title: Biker Build Off
Post by: kopfjäger on December 10, 2012, 09:29:46 PM
The bikes are done, the winner will be announced tomorrow night in Vegas. Jr built a pretty cool bike, Sr built something similar to the Confederate Wrath, Jesse built...I'm not sure what the make the beast with two backs he built and he's starting to piss me off, but Richard and Aaron from Gas Monkey Garage built a chopper a real deal hot rod. It's short wheel based, no front brake, jockey shift, 160 rear tire bad ass scooter. (my dream bike)

If you get a chance vote for the Gas Monkey bike, I'd love to see them take these dudes down.  [evil] Doubt it will happen, but you never know.

I hate to say it, but I like the OCC bike the best.

Jesse is acting like a douche, and his bike is fugly.

Interesting that 2/4 bikes aren't choppers.

Yeah, the OCC bike is the best, the prob being that it's basically a confederate as mentioned before.  I cant really give points to them since copying a great design doenst mean you made a great design.

Dont watch the show, but I do like these build offs

Jesse James has the most talent and skills but his rants make him sound pretty insecure.  People know he's got skills....he needs to give it a rest.

I see nothing new or original in the PJD bike.  Long, low, stretched with swoop bodywork has been done to death.  How to make it even more played out?  Flat black rat rod paint with red rims and white walls.  Gee, I've never seen that color scheme before.

I actually have to give it to OCC for trying something different.  Not crazy about how it came out.  But at least they tried to step away from what they're known for.  Gotta give them props.

I actually like Jesse's bike for the most part.  Still looks a little off the mark from what I thought it was going to be.  Sort of the same thing that happened to the OCC bike.  Stuff didn't flesh out as cool as it could have.  But at least he built his frame, bodywork, reconfigured the transmission, etc.  He didn't let the CNC do all the hard parts.  Its the most 'built' bike in my mind.

I actually like the Gas Monkey bike the best.  But that's just a matter of taste.  It isn't very original either.  Lots of garage builders do similar stuff.  Take a Harley frame/motor and chop it.  Turn it into something different.  So I can't say it's original.  Especially since it looks like they copped Cole Foster's style a bit.  But it came out well and looks like it'd be the most fun to run around on.  I like it.

As far as who wins...I don't know....or really care.  I'd like to see Gas Monkey win.  I thought Cole Foster's bike should have won back when he did the build off.  So a Gas Monkey win would be cool.  The rest of the guys have jumped the shark a while back.

OCC got my vote this year. The carbon fiber spring did it for me.  I like JJ but he needs to shut up for a while.
Jr.  pfff what's new? let me think... Oh nothing!
Gas Monkey I like those guys but the bike does not do anything to me

Nothing ANY of these guys did is new/original..

OCC has done a 'sport' bike.... then again Buell has done that sheezy for years.

JJ ( truly a world class craftsman... and reminds everyone) did a sport bike years ago... using a Honda powerplant IIRC

The PJD and Gas Monkey offerings are standard fare...

the whole buildoff is old hat... but peeps still tune in.

What's with Jesse of late?  He's completely gone into hater status after he and Sandra Bullock split.  I'm a fan of his copper bike and that's it for me.  I do like Gas Monkey's back to basics though but Junior's look reminds me of a very old Schwin

Net wort of the builders.

JJ $100 mil
Sr $15 mil
Jr &10 mil
Richard $8 mil

My two favorite bikes took 1&2, not in the order I would have liked. JJ and Sr, it was a chopper build off not a whizz bang sport bike build off.  ;)

Unmake the beast with two backsing believable  [puke]

I can already hear the argument they built sport bikes to a chopper build off.

So doucheyness is proportional to net worth?

I kinda like GMG's bike, but I liked a previous take on that concept better:

You believe everything you read/see in the media?

I've run into JJ a few times before he moved. We used the same doctor and I answered a few calls for service at his shop. He was always very cool. He rehabbed a run down part of town and was generous to the community.

And at least he's legit and original. The other guys are just JJ wannabes.

I hope so, he was pulling $2mil a year when he did Monster Garage. Gotta get a break somewhere.

my vote went to JJ for the simple fact was in 1 key word.... "BUILD"...he did more to personally build that bike with his own hands using his own resources...

IMHO the Sr bike was designed on a computer and cut by a computer and assembled by Sr's crew....lot of nice engineering...but it seemed a little soul-less...

Jr's bike just did very little for me...neat looking and a lot of nice touches and flourishes...

GMG...they got 2 major things going for them on that bike over everyone else...they did it in a reasonable timeframe and they actually rode that thing there...not that I think it was stellar or anything...but in the end, a bike is for riding and that is exactly what they did...

I would have liked to have seen JJ get his hands on Richard though....looked a little tense indeed...not sure who said what and all, and I know that Aaron stepped up and apologized on stage and all...but damn...

One would think the 35% tax bracket plus the fact he provided jobs to quite a few people would be enough or actually (shock) congratulate him on being a success and not sitting on his ass asking for a government handout.  But alas the world is filled with envious douchebag looters as well.

 [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
Like lawbreaker said, none of them are original. They all ought to be paying royalties to O.G.'s like Arlen Ness,Sugar Bear,
Ron Finch, Mondo Porras and Indian Larry.
I am not trying to take anything away from any of them, I think they are very talented.
As far as who's a douchebag and who isn't, well that's kinda beside the point. Many, if not most, talented artists are a little hard to take personality wise.

I'll try again. Did JJ end up with a bike that was running and could be ridden. All the other shops had clips of them riding their completed bikes.

The Gas Monkeys one was very nice IMO, maybe the nicest, but it was hardly a "build".  Was more of a restoration++.
Jesse's one, I would have liked it, if it wasn't for that fugly three prong thing coming up from the engine. And the too blinky wheels.
Jr's bike was a freak show, and Sr was ugly, and Made in CNC.

Title: Re: Biker Build Off
Post by: metallimonster on December 12, 2012, 08:50:09 AM
I liked all of the bikes.  I thought Jesse's last year was much cooler than his this year.

I'm in the minority but since he left OCC I love everything Jr's built.  I thought his was the best this year and GM was next.  I loved the lines and coloring of Jr's, yeah it might be a theme we've seen before and that's what I thought when they started building it but the finished bike to me was very beautiful.

My favorite part of the show was when the GM guys totally backed down from Jesse when he basically said if you're going to talk shit you better be ready to back it up. JJ is not a guy I would want to make the beast with two backs with.

That being said, something is up with Jesse.  Seems like he might be bipolar or something. One minute he's the bad ass outlaw the next he's praising Jr for his skills.  He came off a little depressed and pregnant dogy to me throughout the whole show.

Dude's got issues. I remember seeing a program years back when he was just breaking out. Much more an interview/documentary than any of the documdrama crap now. He talked about his problems with booze, drugs some personality instability etc.

JJ has ben building bikes for a LONG time.... So have several other builders

I'm not sure what the rules  are, but... Roland Sands has an affinity for sport bikes...

hmmm..... Buell had been making sport bikes for a while- without much love or support from Hardly-Ableson.

At this juncture, it'd be nice to see something DIFFERENT :

Not a Nostalgia "old Skool" bike
Not some Ghey-Ass "Theme" bike-  [puke]

How 'bout a different drivetrain/powerplant....?

Different style.... ?

The mainstream voter (for this type of crap show) seems all boner'd for the theme bike crap.... and the shit that made all these bikers famous 10 years ago.....

Mybe I'm stuck in the sport bike - non-squid-actually can ride- hits trackdays-goes to MotoGP-uses my bikes EVERY-eFFi'n-day.. crowd

I think its fair to sat that we ALL know that if ther rules were :

Here's a pile of metal tubing, sheet metal, a motor/trans and a set of wheels... Now build a bike...

We ALL know who would win....... (JJ... PERIOD)

These type of 'Reality Shows" are actually lame... but have the uncanny ability to reel people (Lawbreaker included) in to see what happens and who will have the most drama.....

Maybe someone should do a MOTORCYCLE Build-off with builders other than strict H-D people..

Flightcycles.... BooM !!!

:P  I did say good reason.  :D

Why didn't he add another one to the left side?  If he wanted 4 pipes... dare I say it?  BMW makes a fine line of longitudinal I4s... and then it wouldn't look like a kindergardner though it up.  Or how about a V4 honda or something.

I get that it's about style, but that execution is a ridiculous hack.

thanks to the link for the Icon bikes [thumbsup]
