Title: What is this harness/clip for? (Monster 796)
Post by: shamoo on December 13, 2012, 07:54:03 AM
As I was washing the Monster over the weekend, I noticed a white electrical harness that looked a little suspect.  Out of the 4 wires that can come out of it, only 3 continue into the wiring loom above.  There is a black wire that appears to be cut since you can see a few copper strands sticking out.

What is it?  Nothing appears to be malfuntioning on the motorcycle or the cluster.  I'd like to point out that there were two separate warranty issues taken care of the dealer related to electrical.
*  Clock would randomly reset and headlight would flicker.  They replaced some relay.
*  Headlight stopped working, and the high beam indicator would stay on.  They replaced some sort of connector that "melted".

That white connector is your headlight supply...

... dunno about the "clipped" wire.   In your marketing area (USA I'm guessing), does 796 have the silly parking light like Euro spec bikes have?

Yes, headlights.  I had that connector replaced under warrantee because the ground got too hot and burned up.  (probably from riding with my high beam on ALL the time.)

At some point i am intending to replace that wire with a higher gage that can handle the return of the high AND low beams for extended periods of time.
