Title: 7" HID light with halo
Post by: hawangatang on December 20, 2012, 06:25:25 PM
Hi guys I was just browsing through my usual lists of motorcycle blogs and I found this beautiful MV Agusta cafe. I particularly liked the fairings and also the headlight stood out.

So i did some research and I found this!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0XA0972989 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0XA0972989)

http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2012/12/believe-it-or-not-but-this-is-an-mv-agusta-brutale/ (http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2012/12/believe-it-or-not-but-this-is-an-mv-agusta-brutale/)

I believe this will fit. I'm thinking it will fit because it's a standard 7" round time headlight unit... But I'm not sure. Does anyone want to confirm this with some measurements? I'm out of the country and I am not with my bike right now.

Hmm, that price is for two - so they are $53 a pop... interesting.

Yeah it looks pretty good. Plus it's from Newegg and not some weird Alibaba grey market site. If the size and the fitment will fit the housing I'm all in... cuz it looked pretty badass on the MV.

Yeah it says it's legal in the description. I don't see why it wouldn't be legal  :-\

Things like this are exactly why I wish MotoWheels sold their kit without a lens and reflector.

That's pretty much all the MW kit is. What did you want exactly?

Their kit comes with the lens, reflector and the adapter ring. I just want an adapter ring, but not for $180.

ah, gotcha.  i just bought that setup a few weeks ago and installed and, of course, that it the only other part.  can you call matt at motowheels and ask if they'd sell you just the ring?  they're pretty cool guys . . .

I emailed them when they were offering the discount in the other thread, but never heard back. I'm in a mental loop trying to decide if I keep, and therefore continue to mod, my bike... so it fell off my radar. Then threads like this with new gadgets pop up and give me more ideas.

this is pretty cheap especially if you share the price with someone since we only need one headlight  ;D

I'm just concerned of the fitment... i wonder if it will fit in the stock headlight bucket...

I would say no.

Well, it'd be more comforting if the linked manufacturer website was more than a blank white page.

The bulb is a "Xenon HID-look", so I'm guessing this means its a coated halogen bulb, not a true HID lamp.

those are h4 bulbs in that link to the halo thingy.  same thing as your stocker except with a pretty ring around it.  this is not an HID setup.

So it will fit?  ???

no, same kind of light (meaning just an h4 halogen bulb).  different size.  it will not fit directly.  your stock bucket is 7" and change - can't remember exactly how much bigger.

Ditto... Stocker is somewhere around 7 1/4"... which is why the MotoWheels kit has an adapter ring in it. Others have also made adapter rings in the past, but those are all one-off custom jobs. Nobody has actually produced the adapters for sale (other than the one in the MW kit).

That said, I don't think the adapter is any feat of high engineering. If you have moderate fabrication skills, you may be able to make one... or give MW a call to see if they will sell them separately (as I may do if I get serious about changing the reflector on my bike).

It would also be nice to see other images of this halo reflector, to verify the depth matches the stocker. I'm thinking there is some industry standardization for "7 inch reflectors", since hey are one of the common sizes for HD and cruisers, but I can't verify (ie, haven't researched) that theory.

If you go for it, be sure to post pics.

I'm thinking about it. but i blew my entire budget on an iphone instead... I'm not sure if that was a good investment haha  [roll] I will definitely revisit this thread for pictures. It's not too much money if we can just buy ONE instead of a PAIR though.
