Title: Case sealant / Gasket material???
Post by: JoeB on December 20, 2012, 08:28:39 PM
Just wondering if anyone knows the specification of the sealant for the engine sidecovers for a desmoquattro?

I was thinking about taking them off, along with the water pump housing and spraying them another colour.

thanks in advance-

I use ThreeBond 1194, works very well.

AFAIK, same product is sold as YamaBond and HondaBond.

I use peramtex copper on about 5 motors ive opened up. Sometimes you cant get teh ducati stuff which is pretty expensive for sealant, and the three bond arent exactly available in all places.

no complaints from any of them. just dont use too much, youll end up losing chunks on the inside cover and then itll get into the oil pumping system and clog shit up.

Permatex RTV ultra grey

Made for oil immersion and high temp.

Same stuff, and the color matches the grey case.

i use threebond 1215, which is what ducati supply and i can get it easily locally.  i have some black stuff too which is what aprilia specified for the sxv/rxv motors to stop the nightmares they were having, forget its number but it's much more expensive.

found some spec sheets, but often it's hard to know how they vary unless you talk to the right person:
