Title: Yamaha Seca II
Post by: the_Journeyman on January 03, 2013, 03:43:52 PM
Found one for $600 that needs fork seals but otherwise runs good.  Not 100% sure on plastics conditions on the bikini fairing.  Good bikes?  Work fixing for resale?

While I've never really liked the styling of them, they seem to have a reputation as solid bikes, and a lot of people like the sport-ish inclinations & upright seating position on the Seca II - if you can minimize the money you put in it, you should be able to make a bit of $$$ on the deal; I see them offered around here in the $1,200 - $1,500 range.

The son of a friend of mine had one, ~75k miles on it IIRC.

Not a very inspiring ride, but any bike that can rack those miles and still run well.....

It warrants a much closer look for certain.  I'll stop for a much closer look tomorrow so I can look for signs of being down (likely) abuse, and see the condition of tires, chain, and any other parts I can get my hand or flashlight on.

If that was the 650 a bud had a new one back in the day and it was awesome.  The rest of us had 750s and he could leave us behind in the twisties every time.  There again, he was a "natural" rider and maybe we were not.  Point being the bike could keep up with him  :)

Well,  checked it out.  The list to make it worth decent resale:

Paint tank (might need a little filler too)
New front tire
Find a headlight fairing (totally gone, just an instrument cluster & headlight up front)
Fork seals
Replace engine covers

That's before I'm even looked into the mechanical stuff & carbs.

I'll pass.
