So is there a list anywhere of EVERY fastener on a bike. Say, a '99 M900 like mine?
I'm getting set to do my belts and figured as long as I'm at it, I'd install some CF belt covers I've had laying around for a year or so. Problem is, the OEM cover is thicker and the socket head cap screws are too long for the very thin CF cover. Started looking online for a source and found a place in Italy that makes Ergal parts. Beings as the DP ergal kits are NLA from DNA, I figured as long as I'm doing it, why not do it right.
Problem is, I don't have the time to put together a list for the whole bike. Has anyone ever?

The only problem with those is that they're OEM replacements. I need shorter bolts for the CF pieces. I'll call DesmoParts Monday and see if they have a list they'll share. Thanks.

Ryan hasn't been on in quite awhile, but as a supplier I know he offers a few kits, and as a rider I think he was putting together some sort of list.
Do you have a fastener shop nearby? If so you could just take the bolts over, let them know how the size needs to change, what material, and have them put together a kit for you - I know my local Fastenall can source all kinds of exotic material fasteners, aluminum, titanium, odd platings such as black chrome, even silver plated (for avoiding cathodic/galvanic corrosion in dissimilar metal applications, such as stainless fasteners in aluminum substrates). Worst case, if you're dead set on Ergal and can't find it, you can have a local machine shop turn some bolts for you, 7075 is pretty easy to work with.
for the application, belt cover bolts are under no stress so just about anything will do, even nylon. Stainless would look very nice, but either don't ride in rain, or grease them up real good where they go into the case (or Corrosion-X or ACF-50 them), as they'll cause the aluminum case to corrode if there isn't something to keep moisture out and/or a dielectric between them. 7075 Ergal would hold up well as long as it's anodized, it's well stronger than needed, won't cause the case to corrode, but it is not in and of itself very resistant to corrosion. You could also choose a more corrosion resistant alloy, such as 6061.

Like you say, anything will do. SS is overkill for these apps. I want to go with Ergal because I got half a bikes worth from someone here or on ebay and I like it and I'd like to finish the bike off with it. Shame I'm not in Italy, they sell the kits in stores that are there equivalent to Cycle Gear, only megastores.

I think that's the kit I saw in Milan. Once again though, OEM sizes. I think I'll get one and just replace single pieces of the ones the OEM bolts are too long for.

Yeah, I could. But out of headlight glare of an inpending deadline (did my belts today and wanted to have it DONE) I think I'm just going to order a kit, get out the taps and dies and the dremel. There's probably about a 2-3mm gap. I figured WTF, guy run without any covers on whatsoever. It's not like I'm going to be riding daily between now and when I can get it done right. One issue with washers, though, is that with these cheapie CF covers I have, there's a radius in the CF so any washer with an OD bigger than the head of the screw would hit that radius and crack it. (These weren't done right with the metal insert in the bolt holes, there's just a hole in the CF. WTF, they were free. Confiscated them from my son when he sold his Monster. I guess it all works out. I gave him a CF front fender that the he forgot to take off when he sold his bike, the moron!)
