Title: Subframe & Peg swap for M1100? Post by: Syscrush on January 15, 2013, 10:08:53 AM Hi there.
I thought I was in the market for an M1100 EVO, but this '09 M1100S has caught my eye: (http://ps1.cdnmedia.autotrader.ca/8/ppgphotos/2013/01/05/20090918150955328/20090918150955328_ff4b5dfb32a243bbb86dd7824b3871500-orig.jpg) On one hand, I really like the APTC clutch, the newer wheels, and the ABS on the EVO. On the other hand, I do like the Corse livery, the Ohlins suspension, and the lower price of the S. Also, a dry clutch with an open cover feels right on a Monster. Can anyone confirm for me if it's possible to swap the subframe and the rider & passenger pegs from the EVO onto the older S model? For the short term, I'd probably just have the gigantic nasty peg holders coated flat black, but I'd like to know if it's possible to swap on the newer style in the future if I feel the need. For reference, here's what the EVO setup looks like: (http://i47.tinypic.com/260ye6x.jpg) Title: Re: Subframe & Peg swap for M1100? Post by: Stormtrooper on January 15, 2013, 10:46:33 AM Coming from someone that did a ton of homework on rearset options for my 796 here are my findings...
1100EVO rearsets swap over to the standard 696/796/1100 no problem. The problem is lack of availability of used EVO parts. For the price of going with new OEM 1100EVO rearsets and associated parts you'll be better served going aftermarket as this swap will run you $600+. The subframe will fit as well but again...price and availability is the problem. The older S*4 rearsets are a popular option on the new gen monsters as well. This is route I went and am glad I did. My .02: - Unless you found a killer deal on used undamaged EVO rearsets I wouldn't consider it, like I said $600+ (about the same $ as aftermarket adjustables) - If cost is no option go aftermarket adjustable...Rizoma, woodcraft, Ducabike, whatever... - If you want to keep cost down and don't need adjustability go S*R rearsets. Lots of used ones available out there in all ranges of condition. On a side note: If you are considering just painting your "chicken wings" on the 1100, I am selling my OEM 796 rearsets which come powdercoated black from the factory. Check the classifieds. Painting the stocks ones are a pregnant dog with the bushings and all. Title: Re: Subframe & Peg swap for M1100? Post by: Syscrush on January 15, 2013, 10:49:59 AM Thanks a lot. I should know which direction I'm going in terms of bike purchase by the end of this week (also looking at a Street Triple R and a Brutale 675). If I go for the M1100S and you haven't moved your chicken wings yet, I'll be looking to pick them up.

It no longer matters for my theoretical M1100, because a deal came through today for me to buy a 1979 CBX. But my wife might still want something like that for her 620. Are they available for that bike? |
