Title: Changing Coolant on '02 S4
Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on January 25, 2013, 09:16:18 AM
My nice new shiny Speedymoto water pump has developed a leak and needs to head back to OR to get fixed.  How does one drain/replenish coolant.  I assume to replenish just repeat drain steps in reverse.  There usd to be a thread out there detailing this but the pics went and thus so did the instructions.  And the Ducati manual is well impossible to use

Thanks for the help.

Remove radiator cap.

Have a clean bucket at the ready.

Remove drain screw at the bottom of the water pump cover.

Coolant comes out at a rather astonishing rate.

OEM screw has a crush washer, it's easier if you don't drop it in the bucket.

When refilling, go slow, as it takes a while for the coolant to flow across the tubes in the radiator.

Fill to top, wait for it to go down.

Repeat until it stays up at the top.

Replace radiator cap.

Make sure the overflow tank is filled per spec.

Start the engine, and monitor the temp, run it until the fan(s) come on.

Let it cool completely, this allows for the system to purge the air and refill from the overflow tank.
