Title: What am I doing wrong? Post by: jrswanson1 on January 25, 2013, 10:25:06 AM When taking a wider turn at speed (40 mph or so) on my 696, I've noticed lately that the handlebars are weaving while I'm in the turn. I'm looking through the turn, counter steering, and maintaining speed through the turn. ???
Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: rule62 on January 25, 2013, 10:45:18 AM Could be suspension set-up. 696 is non adjustable. Might be worth while to see what your sag values are and go from there.
Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: Slide Panda on January 26, 2013, 10:20:55 AM You feel a change in pressure through the bars?
Quite possible you need a little TLC on the monster. Dunno what miles you have on it, but the forks might need a refresh. Have you had the front wheel off before this begin? Could be you got alignment wrong. Checked the torque on the steering head nut? Could be the bearings are settling in and you've got play in the head. If you're getting push back through the bars, it's probably a tech question vs you as the rider Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: jrswanson1 on January 26, 2013, 10:52:29 AM This is on my new Monster. I have a little over 4000 miles on. The bike hasn't been messed with since the 600 mile service.
Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: Slide Panda on January 26, 2013, 11:31:59 AM I'm aware is on the new bike.
You didn't answer my question on how it feels, in more detail Still sticking with steering head bearing torque as my off the cuff Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: stopintime on January 26, 2013, 11:45:12 AM Have you become faster?
That could challenge the suspension more than it can handle without misbehaving a little. Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: The Bearded Duc on January 26, 2013, 12:00:52 PM Incorrect tire pressure?
Even at a few bars off will cause some vagueness and possible weaving. Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: jrswanson1 on January 27, 2013, 05:35:08 AM Tire pressure was low (zero) on the rear tire and low (20 psi) on the front. I need to check pressure more often, I used to do it once a week, it's been over a month since I checked it last.

Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: Slide Panda on January 27, 2013, 06:38:16 AM Wow. Good reminder to check the pressure before a ride. Might keep a close eye on the rear to ensure you don't have a pin hole leak
Title: Re: What am I doing wrong? Post by: Lieutenant Dan on January 27, 2013, 07:17:49 AM This once happened to me on a 695. My rear tire had a slow leak from the valve and I failed to keep it topped up every time I rode. Got some wicked wobble going around a turn. Scared the SH!T outta me... :o Keep up with those tires! [thumbsup]
