Title: TPS adjustment needed after 796 ECU reflash?
Post by: Stormtrooper on January 27, 2013, 09:29:57 PM
I installed a re-flashed Rexxer ECU along with an MWR Intake on my 796ABS. Instructions said to turn TB screws in all the way then back out 1/2 turn.  All went fine with the install as the bike runs fine. However, I couldn't locate the TB screws so skipped that step. Is this adjustment optional or 100% needed? Like I said I didn't mess with it and it seems to run fine.

I read that resetting the TPS is easy on these bikes but is that the same thing as the TB screws?

they are under plastic plugs.
also to reset TPS just cycle the bike on and off 3 times without touching the throttle or starter.

Thanks for the info Raux,

About the TPS reset; doesn't the Siemens ECUs automatically reset the TPS at every start (assuming no throttle is used)?

About the TB air screws; Is is necessary to mess with the TB air screws if the bike is already running well or is that measure more of a fine tuning thing if the bike is running rough?

My M1100 ECU has been Rexxered.  Never touched the TB air screws.

Which instructions?

The bike is running great after the reflash so I'm not going to bother fussing with the TB screws.  If it ain't broke why fix it?

I had the Rexxer reflash done by Chris @ http://www.cincydesmoservice.com/ (http://www.cincydesmoservice.com/)

In our email correspondence he mentioned to adjust the TB screws.  Maybe this is to fine tune if the bike is running rough or only applicable to older Monsters, dunno.  Either way, I'm leaving it alone.

I also had my ECU done by Chris at CincyDesmo.

As Raux said, these screws are covered with grey plastic covers. They are on either side of the intake manifold. The one on the right is near the throttle actuator. I used a pick to poked a hole and then make the hole big enough with different size of screw drivers.

I did turn the air screws out about 3/4 turn, but I could not "feel" any difference. In stock, the right one was about 1/4 turn out and the left one was almost closed (this one is really difficult to get to as there is a connector in front of it mounted on the frame.

With the Akara slip-ons with baffles in, there are still a few decel pops from time to time. I may try to turn those screws out to 1 turn or and see if that get rid of the pops. Other than that, as you said, the bike runs fine (with stock sprockets).

As for the TPS reset, I did the 3 times on/off anyway as there is no harm by doing so.
