brilliant piece!!! Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: koko64 on February 08, 2013, 11:44:20 AM It's the truth, and like it or not, the future.
Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: Speeddog on February 09, 2013, 11:18:27 AM So if I went to the local mall, and asked 100 teenage girls who Romano Fenati is, more than one would know?
Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: koko64 on February 09, 2013, 11:52:32 AM Not one. [laugh]
But they should market it like he said. I dont like it, but it makes commercial sense at least. If your little girl is going to spend Daddy's money, it might as well be related to motorbikes rather than New Direction or JB. At least the moto 3 boys have balls. Having four teenage daughters (I'll never retire), at least they might watch the racing with me and appreciate motorcycles. Eighteen year old does want a Monster which is good, she is the only one though. Spose its an untapped market. Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: The Don on February 09, 2013, 02:19:00 PM Problem is koko, teenage girls will do to racing what they have done to the music charts. So what you will have is pretty faces on bikes rather than blokes that can ride.
When I've been to Phillip isiand over the years there are hardly any women there. So where this writer gets his information from about the fairer sex I'm not sure. I'd say teenage boys have done their fair share of ruining the music charts as well. Damn kids and your music, get offa my lawn! So where this writer gets his information from about the fairer sex I'm not sure. I dont think he's saying how it is (down here anyway), but how it could be by harnessing the marketing opportunity. Big bucks to be had from "insecure impressionable teenage girls", as the song goes (an insightful parody song about current pop music industry). Thank God my seventeen year old loves Black Sabbath and muscle cars. [evil] Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: OT on February 09, 2013, 10:32:57 PM If teenage girls and "pop music" are any indicator, then "motorcycle racing" will be around for a long time to come...it just may not look like anything you've seen before....

My N'Sync poster is more than just a coupla teeny-bopper generations too old. Gracias.

Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: zooom on February 11, 2013, 06:31:54 AM we laugh and joke, but the Paris Hilton sponsorship opportunity from 2011 he references could have been a cultivated gateway for a lot of teams struggling to find money...imagine if you would the idea of what Yamaha did near the end of Rossi's tenure with the twitter pic image users thing they did if say Twitter did a bike sponsorship....or, laugh as you might...a record label ( say Beiber's ) sponsored a bike and every race featured a different artist likeness on the bike...since JB is a rider ( though admittedly a squid) the likelyhood of riding that popularity and monetary wave is a very feasable one indeed...
Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: Grampa on February 11, 2013, 08:20:38 AM But i find Beibers music just as offensive and carcinogenic as cigarette smoke. So if he does sponsor a team, i demand his face be removed from the teams livery during all stateside events, same as what the Marlboro teams are subjected to.
Title: Re: the Legacy of MotoGP Post by: duccarlos on February 12, 2013, 08:40:34 AM Only half of that article was about the female demographic, the other half was about sponsorship. This is where MotoGP has completely dropped the ball. When the tobacco money was dropped, racing series (Nascar comes to mind) had to scramble to replace the money. They completely diversified, going after every possible dollar out there available from drinks to telephone companies. It didn't matter how small, they added another sticker to the car. This I believe has opened it up for the masses, since those companies will run ads with the vehicles they sponsor. If MotoGP would get their heads out of their asses and go for maybe smaller sponsorship, then maybe we would see more exposure, and hence more fans, including the female demographic. BTW, the biggest increase in a specific demographic since Nascar had to look elsewhere for money has been in... you guessed it... women.
