Title: headlight weirdness
Post by: muskrat on February 08, 2013, 09:32:43 PM
06 S4R with new battery and today before my ride I noticed that my low beam was, well, lower than low.  I switched to high beam and the idiot light did not come on nor did the high beam.  This continued for about a minute until finally the high beam came on (I always ride with my high beam on).  It's never done this so my guess is the cold or perhaps the low beam bulb is burned out?  I've never taken apart the housing so I have no idea what bulb(s) are there.  Could it be that the low is shot and the high is ok?  This still doesn't explain the problem when I first cranked the bike.  Input???

I suspect you have high resistance in the headlight connector,  Inspect and clean or replace if needed.  Connector good?  What is the available voltage at the connector high (yellow/black)?  White?  How much less than available battery voltage?  Measure resistance from the ground connector (black) to battery ground.  Look for 0 or .00 something ohms, or, with the headlight connected and key on, run a wire from ground to battery negative.  Light gets brighter?  Bad ground.
