Alright, guys.
I've got a 2011 796 with ABS. I took off the factory forks in lieu of some from a K7 GSXR 750. I've got everything bolted up and ended up needing to use the calipers off the GSXR. The banjo bolt mounts much lower on the GSXR's caliper than the duc so my brake line is too short. I've got the brake line from the GSXR that is long enough to go straight from the master into the caliper, bypassing the ABS deal under the tank. Will my bike be rideable if i bypass the ABS or will the ECU throw a fit and shut me down? I'll order proper length lines and get it set up properly soon, but I'm putting this bike in a container tomorrow to ship to Hawaii and need to have it rideable sooner than I can get the proper length lines.
Thanks
-Sam
isn'tthere a way to bypass the ABS in the computer setup
I shipped my bike out yesterday without getting into the vehicle options. I seem to recall seeing that option, though. Thanks for the idea. For anyone else wondering, the bike rides just fine but the ABS light is on above the display.
I'm not 100 percent positive, but I think the ABS is turned back on every time you turn on the key. You might have to shut off the ABS every time you restart.
If it rides and brakes okay, how about a little tape or a sticker over the ABS light. Worked just fine for the fuel light on my 748 until the bulb burned out and the tape was no longer necessary. [thumbsup]
ABS light on just means the system is malfunctioning and is not working. Your normal brakes should be OK, although on some systems like the old BMW R1100S that statement is completely out the door. The bike should still run just fine. You'll have to test the brakes yourself to see how well they are working. [popcorn]
If the brake lines are run from the masters directly t6o the calipers you have conventional brakes. The ABS light will be on since there is clearly a fault. Are you going to eventually get lines made to fit so you can use the ABS? I would since you have the hardware.
