To make a long story short last year I bought a 2010 Monster 1100S. It came with 1 key and nothing else. I bought it right so I'm not complaining about the bike it self however when I tried to get another key I was made aware that was not possible without the code card. I was not aware of all this at the time of purchase. Knowing now that and the fact that a bike is worth far less without a set of keys and card got me to do some research.
I found a place that can retrieve the code and make a code card and OEM key for $450-500. If you just want a generic key by itself without the code it's only $65 per key.
The question is, will my bike be worth $500 more with 2 keys and a code card? I'm very tempted to do it. Or should I just get one extra key for $65 and call it good.
BTW, this bike is like new. It had 200 miles on it when I bought it and now has 2,000 on it.
the only company i have found that can do this is SOSdiagnostics
in all honesty, just get a spare key made.
Dont spend the additional money for a new code unless you are in a situation where the bike has turned itself into a paper weight unless you get a new code.
just my .02
Of course if youre willing to spend $500 for the peace of mind, go for it.
I think the bigger value is the hassle you'de avoid in the event that you lose the 1 and only key to the bike now and leave yourself to short to shit and the bike in a less than savory position....so put a $$$ value on that in comparo to the $450-500 they are asking...
you can get a rexxer programmed to remove the immobolizer and dont worry about the chip key and just get a standard key cut
there is a way to get the keys replicated without having the code card.
