Title: M600 not startiung after tipping over
Post by: Wildfire on February 25, 2013, 03:34:05 PM
I've just bought a 2001 Ducati Monster M600 (carb'd) from a guy who dropped it on the way to the MOT. The bike is in good condition bar a broken tank strap, scraped exhaust and a broken bar end mirror. But it doesn't seem to want to start. It went down on the right hand side.

It feels like fuel starvation, I can see fuel in the filter and all the lines look clear.
Could the pump have been damaged in the fall?

There is definitely spark  and he said it ran in the morning before I picked it up. I suspect that this was because the float bowls still had fuel in them.

Any ideas?

Does it fire on cranking at all? How much fuel in the tank. A bad pump won't feed the motor  with the tank getting low on petrol.
Check the vacuum lines from the inlet manifold are connected to the pump and fuel petcock. Check wires to the coils, battery, ignition just to be on the safe side. Check wires to the starter solenoid if it doesnt crank.
Pull a spark plug and see if it tells you anything.
