has any here installed a open clutch cover on a s2r 1000 if so are they hard or easy. is it a matter of taken off the original cover and just replacing with a open cover or is it more complecated than that. Title: Re: open clutch cover Post by: Two dogs on March 02, 2013, 06:38:53 PM An S2R1000 here
Easy ....... basically unbolt cover and replace ..... BUT unless you replace the springs with SS ones it they will rust and look [puke] Up to you if you replace the pressure plate plenty of cheap ones from China but they look that cheap and the ano usually fades. If $$ are an issue you could clean it up and spray the OEM with VHT high temp paint. But worth at least replacing the springs and buttons. Some sort of protective cage over the clutch assembly would be advised for protecting the clutch from foreign bodies entering the melee . have fun Title: Re: open clutch cover Post by: koko64 on March 03, 2013, 11:28:24 AM Police are hammering open clutches down here in Vic. Whats it like where you are? Maybe a vented cover like a Corse type. Interestingly, my mates Superlight has a Corse type vented cover oem.

Anecdotal or personal experience there koko? I live on the Mornington Peninsula and it's bike central here on sunny weekends with lots of marked and unmarked cars and bikes everywhere in the around the vineyards but even though I've had a DP open cover for over 2 years, I've never had a problem with Mr Plod in the times I've been Title: Re: open clutch cover Post by: koko64 on March 03, 2013, 09:36:57 PM They have been targeting tail tidies and open clutches in the Dandenongs and Yarra Ranges. [bang] . I put my beer tray, reflector and stock clutch cover back on. Have left me alone for it since. You can forget the two Spurs on the weekend. Its well known and the bike shops sold rear guards like hotcakes.

It's really easy. Just unbolt the one you have on at the moment and have a look inside your clutch. They run a dry clutch so no oil or gaskets. There is a rubber seal between the cover and casing that needs to go back on the correct way and some bolta are longer than the others. Just take your time and make a note of how stuff comes apart. All up, to take your OEM cover off, have a look inside then bolt a new cover on will probably take you less than five minutes. Longer if you spend more time looking at your clutch. Do note that once you start taking bits off and replacing with new, bright shiny pieces, there may be no end in sight. One officer explained "a small child could put their finger in there" to which a mate replied "well they'd want to be able to run fast!" End result.......ticket! :-\
