Title: YES!!!!!!
Post by: DexterMorgan on March 27, 2013, 06:21:55 PM
I just got all the paperwork done for my new 2013 Monster 1100 evo!  I am so excited I can't stand it!  I have wanted a Duc since I was younger      (28 now).  I got the black and gray color combo.  I also got the Carbon TERMIGNONI exhaust, ECU and filter, which I will have installed at the 600 mile service.  They did not really take any money off of the bike, but I got the exhaust install/tune and the first service all thrown in at no charge.  Oh, and i got a free Ducati T-shirt.....hahaha.

I already ordered the tail chop kit from monsterparts, next will be CRG arrows and some Rizoma goodies.  I dont take delivery until Monday, a little ahead of myself on the mod bug.    ;D

My fiance took a picture of me at the dealer.  You can't even see my eyes because i am smiling so big.  What a dork!!

That little smile is nothing compared to what will come when you fire it up and come home from your first ride 8)

Congratulations!

Thanks guys, I can not believe how excited I am.  The salesman was laughing when I asked him if i could put the sold sign on it.  The lady at the desk said "I promise i wont let anyone else sit on it now".             [laugh]

Are there any roads to ride on back in MI. I'm grew up near Lansing.  Went back for grad school for a couple years but Didn't find shit to ride on.  I was spoiled though living in Flagstaff prior and riding around there.

Oh gotcha!  I have always lived here and haven't really had the chance to experience better roads.  I live in Waterford, about an hour directly north of Detroit.  I ride woodward a lot.  My fiancé and I are going to visit a few cities in NC when she finishes school.  We have friends that live there and love it.

Do some research and look at the posts from Journeyman. He lives down that way and has plenty of info on some great roads that are not so heavily traveled as the dragon. Few years back, rode from DC to Charlotte to the Dragon. While the Dragon was cool, many of the roads we took to get from Charlotte to the border area were awesome!

I'm in the Southfield area.
I'm on my second monster (s4rs) from TT.  Yes, great little family owned place indeed.
I'm actually planning on dropping off my bike there tomorrow for a belt change. I'll check in on your new ride for you!

Oh ok, i work in the Southfield area.  Tell Jose he better have a cover on it in the back!!  [laugh] We were there all day Monday, we got the grand tour, it was pretty cool, the owner (ole man) super nice guy, walked us into the service area in back and we just shot the sh*t back there for a little bit. I think i am going to pick it up on Saturday.  (Hopefully)!

Nice bike, man. For what it's worth the Dragon is overrated, not that it is not a fine road but there are a multitude of other fine roads in the area that are not so heavily travelled.  [leo]

When I bought my first Ducati my wife asked, "How are you going to get it home?"

...dumb broad.

You don't say what cities in NC, but if one of them is Asheville, suggest you spend a few days there and use it for a base to ride mountains in all directions. As for the Blue Ridge Parkway, my favorite stretch is from Boone through Asheville and out to Mt. Pisgah. On several tours down there I used the Crowne Plaza in Asheville because you can get a room on the first floor out back where you can park the bikes just outside your sliding glass door and the hotel should be fairly secure. http://binged.it/11Z4W83 (http://binged.it/11Z4W83)

Slide's suggestion of Journeyman is good too for some local knowledge. I believe Asheville has an established Ducati dealer as well. Just be aware it can be wet in those mountains! ;)

Awesome! Thanks guys!  It is 12:19am and i am so stoked that i am not even tired after a long day at work.

I did have a question for you all.  I have read A LOT about the 14T front sprocket.  The salesman said on the 2013 the gearing is not as tall as it used to be.  I guess I will know tomorrow when i ride it home but, JW, is it better to swap the 15 out up front or do it the other way and swap the rear and get a new chain?  Just curious.  Thanks!!

Title: Re: YES!!!!!!
Post by: Curmudgeon on March 29, 2013, 11:53:03 PM
Shorter gearing on the 2013? Sounds like salesman's BS which is disturbing since I was a high-line vehicles salesman myself for 40 years... Have him show you the internal gearing change on paper to back that up. A local Evo rider here and previous Ducati owner popped on a 14T before picking up his new bike, just as I did on my 796.

The 14T is a cheap mod and runs fine as long as your chain isn't adjusted too tight and kept well lubed. Yes, 3 teeth in the rear would be better, but do that when you replace sprockets and chain @ 15,000+ miles.

If you want a 14T, have them do it while you wait and don't take any guff about waiting for the first service. If anything, it's going to make it easier for you to get to know your bike at lower speeds while it's breaking in and coughing now and then. Break-in takes 1,200 - 1,500+ miles BTW as the engine gets progressively smoother. Run non-ethanol too if you can find any near you. Here's MI. Seems like a fair amount. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=MI (http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=MI)

Skip the dragon,  There is WAY to much stupidity on that road.  Lots of truckers, cops and bikes sliding into your lane.  IMHO it is a stupid place to ride unless it is midnight ( :

I have heard that more than a few times!!  Haha I think we are going to NC this summer to visit some friends (without the bikes) but we will cover some ground.  I'd just like to ride for longer than 4-5 months out of the year.  Especially with the new 1100evo.   [evil]

No, it's still incredibly tall.  Also, I noticed on the Demo the bike had a really strong vibration in the pegs at 60ish mph.  On the Demo ride I couldn't find an RPM range it liked at that speed.  It may have been a bum bike but on mine I had them put the 14 tooth on before I took delivery and now it cruises fine with no weird vibrations.

I don't know if it was just because i was so elated and excited on my ride home yesterday, but i really did not mind the gearing.  Even starting in 1st gear was not bad.  I may still have the 14T put on at 600 but i'm not too sure.

In that case, I guess you won't mind riding a 5-speed then. 8)

I put the 14 tooth on my M1100 Evo and it is tremendously more fun to ride.  And it still goes to fast for the streets lol.  I actually find myself only using a couple of gears in the canyons.

Title: Re: YES!!!!!!
Post by: DexterMorgan on March 31, 2013, 06:40:54 PM
Ok, so after riding about 50 miles today, I am going to have them put the 14T on at 600.  I am definitely seeing what you guys are talking about.  I could live with it how it is but i agree, slow speeds will be much more enjoyable.  God i love this thing!!!

Snapped a few pics tonight.  Our motorcycle garage is almost done.  Got the stereo in and bought a few speakers to mount in the corners of the room.  I love being able to walk down a few stairs next to the kitchen and having the Duct right there in the house!!  I still have to frame in around the 42" door I put on and base trim, but just little stuff left.  I used ladder hooks to hang the helmets and jackets.

I also took the stock windscreen and swapped it for the small cover as well as taking the mirrors off.  Looks more naked and way more badass.    [evil]
