I did my belts on my 09 696 and it runs great. except in certain rpms I get whining type noise. I know the belts are to tight because I have run into it as I do alot of timing belts on cars for work. my question is I used the video from ca-cycle works and used the allen key method of checking tension. I am going to go in and readjust them but just curious if any one else ran into this problem with that method. thanks
I did mine as well a couple of weeks ago. The allen key method as such is easy but after tensioning I got the same whining noises at certain rpms. I have been driving it since, the whining stays and I take the noises for granted, being a Duc. However, check your bearings properly to be sure that they are good, if so, no problems should occur. thanks for that and the link. I am going to take the covers off on sunday and just recheck the tension. I dont want to much tension on those bearing causing premature wear. but if all is ok still I will drive it for a while and see if it diminishes.
I did my 24,000 and my 36,000 mile belt changes. I used the Allen wrench tension check (Both Ducatisuite AND LT Snyder use this method) and I've not had any problems. Bear in mind Synder's manual says a 5mm should fit but not a 6mm. He also say GENTLY press up on the tension pulley with the 5mm in place to set tension.
IF the whirring remains, I would check your tension and roller pulley for smooth operation. If you feel any roughness or non-smooth rolling, replace. Again, that is from the Snyder book.

just readjusted belt tension and the noise is gone. for what ever reason I could not even get close to getting my 5mm allen pushed passed. they were real tight. maybe next time I will start and run for a minute and check again with just leaving the covers off.
Chocolate usually stops whining.
