Here's the deal. I have a 2001 M750, and I LOVE the way it rides, the look of it (Road Racing tank for the win ;D) and the overall "soul" that it has. I also have a 2007 Multistrada 1100s. No need to say the Multi has a bit more power than the Monster. Truth be told though, I really don't enjoy riding the Multi as much as I do the monster, and have decided to sell it. However, the lack of power on the Monster kind of makes me sad everytime I get on the bike. I mean really, I top out at 89mph going downhill with a tailwind, hahaha! When the multi has no problem running up to 120mph, that just doesn't seem right....not that I woud ever do anything like that, or advocate that kind of behavior ;) Just to give me something to play around with, I was thinking about putting a larger/more powerful motor in the monster. This is where my ignorance on the matter comes into play. What size/model motor could I go with? I've only done motor swaps on cars, so the bike thing is new to me.
I will want to stay carb'd so I don't have to mess with the frame at all (read somewhere one of the tubes is curved a bit on the FI bikes). I've been trying to read and see what all would be required to do the swap, but couldn't really find a good solid list of things. So, I assume I will need the motor and ECU, but have no idea really what else. New carb, plug wires, exhaust? Things like that.
I'm not asking for anyone to just give me a list of what I need, because obviously I need to do more research as to what all would be involved with something like this. With that said, if anyone could point me towards a very detailed writeup about doing a motor swap on a monster, or anywhere else that I could educate myself on the topic, that would be greatly appreciated (and yes I tried, but no, the search has not been my friend today). And yes, I am paying attention to Rudemouthsky's thread on the 750/900 motor swap.
Try searching with 'motor swap', here's a couple:

Ha, why does the search function hate me? Thank you sir!
Keep this thread updated man. I have the same bike as yours, 01 750 and I'm currently putting a 900ss motor in. I have the heads off atm and a good friend who owned a garage working on Audi's, Volkswagens, and Porsches for several years (and the awesome ppl on this board) giving me a hand when I get in too deep.
That first link is to my original query on the subject. Found there were several motor swap threads but none that specifically dealt with our bike. You might learn what NOT to do if you subscribe to the one I have going on, haha. ;) I was gonna attempt an 1100DS swap w/single FCR's but I chickened out.
You got a pic of that RR tank? I love my RR exhaust...I'd kill for a RR dashboard...
Yeah, I am definitely going to keep an eye on yours. I figure you should make a good guinea pig for me, haha. And yes, I have some eye candy for you. Truth be told, if I didn't have the tank on the bike, I'd just sell it and buy a new FI monster. Just can part with the tank though!

heh, that's exactly how I feel about my exhaust. Unlike the tank tho, my exhaust can prob be fabbed a bit to work with most any engine.
