Title: "Ohhhh...you'll take the high road and I'll take the low road" - MIVVs mounted!
Post by: TooClose Racing on April 02, 2013, 02:19:32 PM
Feedback is a gift, my brothers and sisters...AND my apology for what is essentially a re-post from a buried thread somewhere within this specific forum.   I've decided to pull the trigger on a pair of the MIVV carbon GP cans (from PJ's Parts) for my 2001 900S ie, BUT... I have reached that great fork in the road: whether to go hi-mount or low mount?  I was thrown into this dilemma when I discoved that the "GP" can is available in the hi-mount, which I did not previously know existed.  The smaller GP can looks pretty clean/unobtrusive in the hi-mount position (vs a standard size Bazooka can).  Of course, the low mount just seems...style-wise...cooler?  Is it quieter?

GAWD...the pressure of this decision!! My wife has left me (okay FINE - it was the cuckold porn collection), I've lost my job , and I've taken to drinking excessively.  Wait...I just realized I've never been happier.

Whatta ya think?  I have the requisite chopped tail, a CF rear hugger (what a great fit up...NOT), and the standard, boat anchor Ducati footpeg mount castings.

Enquiring minds need to know!! Thanks for a response...

Low mounts are more luggage friendly.

Low mount gets my vote, especially on older gen monsters

I say high if you want a more aggressive look. It also covers the suspension "U" a bit. However I think that low mount has a more classic Monster look. Just depends on what you're going for.

That said, Pedro...your whips got class.

@Pedro  - those ARE some nice horns.   [thumbsup]

Geez - I just counted up the votes.  I think it's a five-five tie right now (I counted both of Raux's votes...).  I'm going to...drink some  more.  But not over this agonizing decision....No, because it is SNOWING outside.  [bang]

High mount.
To my eyes, the hi mount gives a fuller look on the bike when viewd from the side. There's no"gap" or empty space between the tire and the seat.

Besides, with hi mount you can go through deeper water when you have to do water crossing or flood crossing ;D

Ya know, with the slim profile of those puppies the high mount looks pretty good..........

I'm biased for high mounts.  You will get better ground clearance with them.

I vote for Kopfjager's exhaust (I think it's MIVV)-low pipes, but pointed higher than most low cans.

I have low DP Megaphones and love the sound.  If you carry passengers and want high pipes, get carbon pipes as they don't get super hot.

Sil Moto conical low mounts.  I like high and low mounts, just depends on the bike and the look you are going for.

@Travman -the SIL MOTO conical mounts are absolutley sic looking.  Fantastic stuff.    And Autostrada's NKOB Evo's third leg also clicks very nicely, thank you very much.   Man....I was leaning High, but the Low Boys are back in the game.

Anything is better than stock.

I went for high, when they had to warrenty my stockers. And gosh darn it wouldn't you know that Termi's were cheaper than stock so that's what they decided to give me. whoot!

That's a bad ass exhaust!  Who makes that?  I'm considering the comp werkes can for my evo but I'm loving the under engine look of that one.  Have any sound clips?

Okay motley crew...I have chosen...(the .... is to create that stupid suspense that do on those HGTV shows when the stupid real estate agent tells the stupid couple whether their offer was accepted or not as the camera goes back and forth):

THE LOW RIDER!!

"The low rider is a little higher
Low rider drives a little slower
Low rider is a real goer
Low rider knows every street yeah!
Low rider is the one to meet yeah!
Low rider don't use no gas now
Low rider don't drive to fast
Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip and see
Take a little trip
Take a little trip
Take a little trip with me"

I'll post some pictures once they be mounted! Thanks for photos and advice.  Great, great stuff!

So, we be jamming.  Still have to shake her out, but idles just fine.  On a side note, I pulled my emissions canister as part of this effort using the threads/info in the Tech Section.

Please keep remarks about db killers, fork reflectors, and OEM peg mounts to a minimum of five per person.  Tried to mount up w/o brackets but would have required the header piece to be shortened where it enters can.  Maybe another day.  Thanks again for your input and bike photos  - great stuff.

Very nice. I'm torn between these and low mount cf arrows for my own bike.

What do they sound like with the baffles in? The main thing that's made me stick with stock pipes all this time is that I don't wanna be obnoxious.

I have low mount twin carbon Zards with the DB killers installed.  It is nice deep and most importantly, not obnoxious.  Had a CHP right next to me with his window down, he could have pulled me over and choose to pull over a car instead.....  Not bad for California,

Thanks officer [leo]

Agree with the gentlemen with the Zards- deep, mellow, not obnoxious.  But I will definitely check out obnoxious, Fook the Police sound also.   [leo]

Looks pretty straightforward to drill out the rivet and have the inserts as a bolt in or remove feature unless I'm missing something.

Even easier for the Zards they use Allan heads to hold in the DB killers.  Personally have run loud pipes in the past there are few more things I dislike than coming around a corner and the LEO is already out of his car with his arm in the air.....  It has happened to me twice back when I was but a wee lad with a Yoshimura pipe.
